Hollywood appears to be dead set on resurrecting every once successful franchise imaginable, and Chad Stahelski's latest endeavor featuring Henry Cavill is no exception.

We're talking about the Highlander reboot which, at the moment, is slated to release some time in 2026, with filming beginning soon. If the notion of undying swordsmen fighting for ultimate supremacy excites you, then this is a film you'll definitely want to check out. Given Stahelski's impressive directing in the action-packed John Wick series, and his experience as a stuntman, this promises to be an adrenaline-fueled masterpiece (no pressure, though).

The news regarding the release window comes from a financial call in which Joe Drake, chairman of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, allegedly listed Highlander among the company’s 2026 “tentpole” releases.

The narrative of the original Highlander movie centers around Connor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish warrior discreetly living through the annals of time, all while avoiding detection, so his immortality remains a secret.

MacLeod isn't the only immortal around, though, and they are fated to engage in mortal combat until only one survives. As the iconic quote from the movie goes, “there can only be one”.

Set throughout history, the movie delves into universal themes of love, grief, and perpetual conflict, successfully blending elements of drama with high-octane fantasy action.

Chad Stahelski Teases Expansive New Franchise With Highlander Reboot

On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Stahelski revealed that they plan to expand the Highlander franchise with multiple new installments.

I think we have some very good elements now. The trick is when you have the tagline ‘there can only be one’, you can’t just kill everybody the first time. I’ll say it for you first, our story engages a lot of the same characters and stuff like that, but we’ve also brought in elements of all the TV shows, and we’re trying to do a bit of a prequel, a setup to The Gathering, so we have room to grow the property.

This sounds like they won't be done with a single film and instead are planning to extend the story with multiple movies to tell a move overarching story.

It is great to see that Stahelski seems to be committed to the property and with a name like Henry Cavill attached to the project, we will make sure to keep an eye out for any news coming our way.
