During a recent broadcast, popular Twitch streamer Zack “Asmongold” Hoyt stirred up some controversy as he stated that smaller streamers are probably going to stay small if they're “fat and ugly”. Even after some backlash came his way, the 33-year-old doubled down on his take.

This time, though, his unfiltered approach sparked an outrage online, as he spoke about why some streamers are struggling to increase their viewer-count.
Asmongold Claims “Ugly” Streamers Will Struggle To Gain Viewers
As one of the biggest streamers on Twitch, Asmongold knows a thing or two about success on the popular livestreaming platform. In his recent statement, he voiced his thoughts a little blunt, offending some people in the process.
While talking about smaller streamers on Twitch struggling to receive higher viewership, Asmon stated that “sometimes people might not like the answer”.
He then goes on to explain the “uncomfortable sh**ty truth” of Twitch, stating:
Well here’s the thing right, you wanna know a really really uncomfortable sh**ty truth? Is that if you’re ugly, people won’t like you. And this is even more true for girls. So if you’re really fat and really ugly, it doesn’t matter how funny you are, people just aren’t gonna like you. They don’t want to look at you. That’s it.
This statement is a little harsh if you consider that not necessarily all the top streamers on Twitch are what would widely be considered as beautiful. He himself admits to not necessarily fitting that bill.

Asmon still isn't backing down, while addressing the backlash his comments caused:
But I would say, in general, if you look at the majority of people that are popular streamers, they are at least average to above-average attractiveness. I’m not talking about myself, okay? I’m saying the other people, the average. That’s just how it is.
You gotta respect how he's not making excuses, but instead explains how “it's a benchmark”. Looking at Hollywood, where a lot of people are a lot more handsome than the average Joe, there's still some Danny Devito looking people that make it.
His argument is that even though there are some not so handsome people that become famous as streamers or actors, that doesn't mean, that most actors aren't beautiful. So he is basically saying that looks and success in a visual medium like Twitch or movies are correlated.

In the video, he also addresses how people insult him personally because they feel attacked by his comments. He attributes their behavior to them not being happy with their looks themselves, but using him as a target to vent that anger.
It’s sad, but let’s be real — the reason people take a comment like this and then turn it around and personally insult me is because they took that comment personally. So don’t get mad at me, get mad at a mirror.
