Netflix is turning Marilyn Monroe's story into yet another biopic, and this one comes with a highly sexual warning tag.
If the quest is to prove that Marilyn Monroe was more than just a pretty face and a sex symbol, then Netflix definitely isn't going for it: Their upcoming Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde is their first in-house production to get an NC-17 rating, meaning this one is not about to pull any punches.
Netflix Marilyn Monroe Biopic Blonde Gets NC-17 Rating
In case you didn't know, an NC-17 rating is given when the material includes excessive nudity and/or graphic sex. So... yeah, you know what to expect here. It's debatable whether the biopic should be taken as fact though, since it is based on the Joyce Carol Oates novel, which is also called Blonde, and which has been confirmed as a pure work of fiction by the author.
Still, Netflix can boast huge audiences, and few people are going to question the validity of what they see, much less google the truth, meaning Marilyn Monroe is about to turn into more of a sex symbol than she ever was. I don't know how I feel about that, but here's how director Andrew Dominik feels about it:
If the audience doesn’t like it, that’s the fucking audience’s problem. It’s not running for public office. It’s an NC-17 movie about Marilyn Monroe, it’s kind of what you want, right? I want to go and see the NC-17 version of the Marilyn Monroe story.
Sounds like a passionate director - or a thirsty Marilyn Monroe fan... can't decide. Let's hope they remember the fact, that Marilyn supposedly had an extremely high IQ, and was more than just looks... Either way, Blonde stars Ana de Armas as Marilyn, and co-stars Adrien Brody as the next top-billed actor. There is no release date yet, except that the 'biopic' is expected to be released in 2022. In the meantime... here's what else is hot on Netflix.
