After Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: No Way Home, we're excited for what's coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. New characters and adventures are arriving to the MCU. So, which movies and shows can we expect from 2022?
Upcoming Marvel Movies for 2022
Another generation of superheroes & storylines is being introduced within the upcoming MCU Films. New characters like America Chavez and Gorr the God Butcher are debuting in 2022. I’m interested in watching these upcoming movies & learning about their narrative, as America Chaves is meant to replace Bree Larson as Captain Marvel. But I’m more excited to see Oscar Isaac as the Moon Night. Why, might you ask? Because this man is becoming an incredible actor that never disappoints with his performances.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
- Release Date: May 6th, 2022
Wanda Maximoff will become the Scarlett Witch in Doctor Strange – Multiverse of Madness, and I’m guessing you’re wondering what this means for the film. It means we’ll see the maximum strength of Wanda’s capabilities. But that could mean disaster for Doctor Strange, as the Scarlett Witch has ungodly powers. Could we finally see Stephen Strange fail? It’s unlikely.
Thor: Love and Thunder
- Release Date: July 8th, 2022.
Chris Hemsworth will return to New Asgard with Natalie Portman in the fourth installment of Marvel’s Thor. Unfortunately, storyline details haven’t been provided to date. We know that the Mighty Thor Comics are being adapted for this film, so I’m expecting that Jane Foster could have cancer during the War of Ten Realms. But saving this woman would require Thor Odinson to turn Jane Foster into the goddess of thunder. Now, isn’t that interesting?
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
- Release Date: November 11th, 2022.
I’ll watch Marvel’s sequel for Black Panther to honor Chadwick Boseman. However, I’m disappointed that another actor hasn’t been cast as T’Challa. This character is significant for younger generations, as many children consider the King of Wakanda as their hero. Chadwick Boseman would’ve wanted another actor version of T’Challa & not just the Black Panther. Honestly, I’m reserving judgement for this film. Even Marvel hasn’t wanted to provide any updates for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and that’s mildly concerning for me.
Upcoming Marvel Shows for 2022
Disney+ has become my favorite streaming service because of Star Wars and Marvel, so you already know I’m excited about the upcoming shows released under the MCU brand. However, I’m particularly interested in watching the events of Moon Night. Why? Because this show is starring Oscar Isaac from Star Wars. Then there’s the upcoming She-Hulk show, which reintroduces Bruce Banner after the events of Avengers Endgame. How will he have changed & what will he have learned? Now, that’ll be interesting to see.
Moon Night
- Release Date: March 30th, 2022.
As previously mentioned, I’m passionate about the upcoming Moon Knight series from Marvel. It’ll be exciting to see Oscar Isaac play an ex-marine who became a mercenary with mental disorders. But I’m curious about how he’ll phase into the role of Moon Knight. We’ve previously seen Oscar Isaac in the X-Men franchise as Apocalypse and that character was an infamous failure. Fortunately, I’m confident those same mistakes won’t happen with the guidance of Marvel. We can expect this series to be filled with adventure and excitement.
She-Hulk
- Release Date: TBA for 2022.
Could you have ever imagined that Marvel would introduce the She-Hulk? Not me. I didn’t think this character was popular enough to enter the MCU. However, Jennifer Walters has grown in popularity since becoming the cousin of Bruce Banner. She’ll turn into a radioactive monster like Bruce Banner & utilize her strength to protect people across New York City. Honestly, I’m interested to see how this character is developed. Can Marvel recreate the success they’d found with Black Window for the She-Hulk? I’m not sure.
Ms. Marvel
- Release Date: TBA for 2022.
After negative reviews and horrible publicity regarding Brie Larson’s version of Carol Danvers, Marvel immediately worked on finding a solution. They’d decided that replacing Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel was needed. In turn, Ms. Marvel from The Avengers game was announced for Disney+. This announcement surprised me because nobody has been replaced that quickly within the MCU. Despite that initial shock, I’m interested in watching the upcoming series. Why, might you ask? Because Ms. Marvel will mark the first instance where a Muslim-American superhero is seen.
Secret Invasion
- Release Date: TBA for 2022.
What happened to Nick Fury? Those are questions answered in the upcoming Disney+ series named Secret Invasion. We’ll see the leader of S.H.I.E.L.D assist in defeating the Skrulls greatest enemy with the help of superheroes like Mister Fantastic. But that isn’t the most exciting element of this series. Rumors suggest we could become reintroduced to Professor Charles Xavier, with James McAvoy slated to reprise his role. That would be an incredible moment for anyone that previously watched the X-Men franchise.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special
- Release Date: December 2022.
Director James Gunn returned to the MCU to develop the final installment of Guardians of the Galaxy. However, I’d become pleasantly surprised upon learning that Disney+ is launching a live-action holiday special for Guardians of the Galaxy. We’ll see what happens to characters like Peter Quill between the events of Thor: Love and Thunder & Guardians of the Galaxy 3. I’m intrigued about what this television special could provide for both these franchises. We could see Sylvester Stallone return as Stakar Ogord or witness the preemptive birth of Adam Warlock. Wouldn’t that make this television event as special as the Star Wars holiday special? I’d say so.
Shows & Movies Coming to Marvel in 2023 and Beyond
The Marvel Cinematic Universe will introduce thirteen new intellectual properties from 2022 to 2024. Some of my favorite characters are being introduced, like Mister Fantastic & Doctor Doom. This has only increased my fascination for the MCU. But I’ll have to wait longer than expected for these shows and movies. However, anything worth watching requires dedication and time. So I’ll happily wait for these upcoming entries into the MCU.
