Meghan Markle Gets Cancelled By Netflix

Meghan Markle's brand new Netflix Show has been cancelled before it even got off the ground.

Everybody knew that Netflix hasn't been doing very well lately. Everybody also knew that they were cutting their animation budget. People didn't, however, expect them to cut Meghan Markle's upcoming animated show "Pearl". After all, the Duchess of Sussex got a nearly $100 Million USD deal with Netflix back in 2020, so that seems a little bizarre to be honest.

Pearl was going to be an animated Netflix show about a 12-year-old girl, whom the show was named after, who goes on a journey of self-discovery through the inspiration of historical women. It is not the only planned piece of content that Netflix will be producing with the royal couple, nor is it the only one to have been cut in the last few weeks.

After a pretty disastrous first quarter of 2022, Netflix has been in warm waters over their declining user-base. The fears that Netflix is "dying" is rubbish, though.

Meghan Markle's Netflix Show "Pearl" Gets Canned

It has been confirmed that Pearl has been cancelled indefinitely by Netflix. Pearl was set to be one of the royal couple's first endeavors since they split from the Royal Family and moved to the United States of America.

In an interview with Deadline, when Meghan Markle revealed the show last summer, the Royal Duchess said the following:

Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life’s daily challenges... I’m thrilled that Archewell Productions, partnered with the powerhouse platform of Netflix and these incredible producers, will together bring you this new animated series, which celebrates extraordinary women throughout history. David Furnish and I have been eager to bring this special series to light, and I am delighted we are able to announce it today.

So, it now seems pretty darn set in stone that Meghan Markle's first attempt at a Netflix show has fallen at the first hurdle. It is a shame, though, because it sounded pretty interesting when it was revealed a few months ago. We're sure that we'll see plenty from the royal couple over the next couple of months anyway, and we're eagerly awaiting their first successful Netflix production...
