Michael Bay likes to create worlds. What else is new? The fact that he's working with Sony on both a movie and a game, that's new. Here's our interview with Michael Bay about his upcoming AAA game.
At the Next World Forum in Saudi Arabia, we had the chance to have a little chat with the one and only Michael Bay. He told us about his relationship with video games, creating worlds, and how he's partnered up with Sony to dip his toes into video game making.
"I love creating worlds. And games are all about creating worlds – that's my thing."
Michael Bay has a special relationship with video games. He loved them as a kid, and they no doubt informed the kind of director he became.
But when he did become a movie director, he soon noticed that some video games were trying to "steal some of [his] stuff," so he decided to write his own game – all in good humor. That was about seventeen years ago, but now his nearly two decade old work might see the light of day after all.
With "kick-ass action", a big world and emotion to the story, he put his game down at the time. But even after being told that this could be a "huge AAA game", Bay still decided he wanted it to be a movie and sold it to Sony.
They wanted to buy the game, but Bay initially didn't want to sell it. But long story short: they are currently getting ready to work on both movie and game.
Obviously, Michael Bay has remained carefully tight-lipped about the details of his upcoming work with Sony. But he told us a little about the game he wrote all those years ago: if that story turns out to be the one he's working on with Sony, then we're in for a story about NASA, science and "kick-ass action."
