The new 007 is going to be a British man, seems obvious, but maybe not...
The names James, James Bond. Or is it? Could it be a Jasmine? After the recent Bond film, we all felt that the door had been cleverly left open for someone else to take on the role. But now, according (for the first time) to official sources, we have news on the new 007. And it's not going to be a woman, or someone from further afield, it's going to be a man and their going to be British.
Who is the new James Bond?
According to producer Barbara Broccoli in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter:
“I think it will be a man because I don’t think a woman should play James Bond,” she explains. “I believe in making characters for women and not just having women play men’s roles. I don’t think there are enough great roles for women, and it’s very important to me that we make movies for women about women. He should be British, so British can be any [ethnicity or race].”
And there you have it. It's not really huge news that's James Bond will be a British man, but we've been hearing some ridiculous rumors recently. She rightly mentions that it could be someone of any race if they're British, so that does still leave the door open for it to not be a British white man again, but who knows who they'll pick? It could also be a non-binary person, but her comments lead us to believe that she would rather just cast a man.
When will the new James Bond Film be released?
James Bond films have historically been released between 1 and 6 years apart from each other, but given that we're transitioning to a new Bond, we expect the film to be released no earlier than 2024. Which is an awful long time to wait, but maybe Holland's Uncharted film can scratch that itch?
