Netflix has done pretty well on the anime front and they show no sign of stopping: get ready for Pluto on Netflix! We've got all the info for you, including release date, trailer, plot and even more.
If the name "Pluto" doesn't ring any bells for you and you wonder where the hype is coming from, maybe "Astro Boy" gets those nostalgic memories going for you. Netflix tackles its next anime with a classic story by Naoki Urasawa based on Astro Boy: "The Greatest Robot on Earth," to be exact.
The manga series was ahead of its time: back in 2003, Urasawa wrote the dark and gritty story of the robot detective Gesicht trying to solve murders of its kind and humans alike. Sounds like something straight out of Detroit: Become Human, doesn't it?
Pluto On Netflix | Release Date & Trailer
A murder mystery perfectly fits the spooky season and Netflix knows it: Pluto will release on October 26, 2023. The manga that the anime is based on was released from 2003 to 2009 in eight volumes – but it seems like the complete arc of "The Greatest Robot on Earth" is going to be released in a single Netflix release.
Knowing that we'll probably get the whole story of Gesicht in a single season makes the trailer even more enjoyable:
Pluto On Netflix | What Is It About?
If you've been expecting a happy-go-lucky-feel-good-anime, you'll likely have realized after watching the trailer that's nothing you'll get with Pluto. It's dark, it's thought-provoking and it's touching on topics that become more and more important with the development of AI.
Be ready to ask yourself philosophical questions regarding humanity and ethics – what makes a human even human? If you've played Detroit: Become Human, you'll probably already have experienced that existential crisis before.
The official Pluto synopsis reads as follows:
A murder occurs in an orderly world where robots are unable to kill humans. The robotic Europol investigator Gesicht takes the case, but the mystery deepens when he finds no trace of a human at the scene of the crime. As he pursues the truth, Gesicht uncovers the most evil manifestation of hate that history ever seen, one that is bent on bringing destruction to the world...
If a robot murder mystery is right up your alley, make sure to mark October 26 in your calendar!
