Netflix is releasing a series of short films adapting the "for-adults" work of Roald Dahl, and it's being directed by Wes Anderson. Here's the release schedule and episode guide.
If you didn't have a chance to check out Roald Dahl's iconic novels, Netflix is currently adapting some of his work into a series of short films. At the helm of the project is none other than Wes Anderson, and we plan to provide you with everything you need to know, including the release schedule and an episode guide.
If you don't know who Roald Dahl is, he was a British novelist, and screenwriter, renowned primarily for his children's books. You might know one of his most famous works that perfectly showcases his peculiar storytelling, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Although, he did also write stories for adults as well, and these are the kinds of stories you can expect in the Netflix adaption.
Dahl's imaginative tales are often infused with a dark sense of humor and include unexpected twists that will make for great entertainment on Netflix.
Wes Anderson's Roald Dahl Short Films on Netflix: Release Schedule & Episode Guide
Netflix plans to release 4 short films, adapting some of Dahl's most entertaining tales. They will release one episode a day, starting September 27 with different run-times, telling different stories.
The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar
The first tale to release will be The Wonderful Tale of Henry Sugar, which is also the only story we have a trailer for, so far. The episode stars Benedict Cumberbatch, and the trailer already showcases just how much Wes Anderson has imprinted his own style on the tales:
The release date for this episode is September 27 and the story follows the tale of Henry Sugar (as the title implies), a wealthy and idle man who discovers a mysterious manuscript detailing special yogic techniques. Intrigued, Henry embarks on a transformative journey, delving deep into these practices, which ultimately changes his outlook on life and wealth.
The Swan
Unlike The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, The Swan isn't all that wonderful, and focuses instead on a horrific case of bullying. This one is not for the faint-hearted.
The Episode will release on September 28, and tell the haunting story of two boys tormenting a third boy, Peter. In their cruel games, they challenge the boundaries of boyhood cruelty, culminating in a symbolic and profound moment involving a swan.
The Rat Catcher
Rat's, such a common motif in Dahl, will be the stars of the show in "The Rat Catcher", our third short story.
The Ratcatcher will grace our screens on September 29 (easy math). It is a short story that captures the grim, eerie side of Dahl's adult fiction and revolves around the unsettling actions and expertise of a ratcatcher, who has a most unusual way of dealing with these little pests.
Poison
The last short story to release will be Poison. The episode will arrive on Netflix on September 30. Set in India, the narrative revolves around a man named Timber Woods, who believes a venomous snake is on his stomach while he lies in bed. The suspense builds as his friend (a doctor) attempts to address the life-threatening situation.
