After his recent success with Midnight Mass, Mike Flanagan has expressed the desire to make a Star Wars horror movie. But how realistic is a horror movie in the Star Wars universe?
With the release of Midnight Mass on Netflix, Mike Flanagan landed a big success. And after The Haunting of Hill House and Doctor Sleep, he did it again. But what's next on the agenda? What would be really good for horror? Flanagan has already begun speaking about a potential project that excites us greatly...
Recently, the master of horror caused quite a stir on Twitter with the idea of a Star Wars horror film. A surprise, to be sure. But a welcome one. What's the concept though? Let's take a look at what exactly Flanagan meant by his words.
Horror is not your favorite genre? No worries, there are plenty of Star Wars games in development right now! They have nothing to do with this brutal horror... so uncivilized.
After Midnight Mass: Mike Flanagan Plans Star Wars Horror Movie
On Twitter, Flanagan talked about his recent idea for a Star Wars horror movie:
Got woken up by the earthquake this morning, sat there for a few minutes just thinking "I'd really love to make a horror movie in the STAR WARS universe..."
Apparently, he spoke from the hearts of many. The tweet was retweeted over 2,000 times and received 26,000 likes. Rahul Kohli, the sheriff from Midnight Mass, jumped on the bandwagon too, replying: "You’ve been reading my diary."

Stars like Elijah Wood and Jeffrex Combs have also commented and made their support public. So the hype is already rolling... But how is Disney reacting? Does it have to react at all?
The idea of turning Star Wars into a horror story is certainly not a new one. Joe Schreiber published the novel Death Troopers back in 2009, which is about survivors on an abandoned star destroyer. But as is the case with horror stories... the ship is not abandoned. In 2010 a successor was published with Red Harvest.
Horror And Star Wars – Do They Fit?
To be honest... Since Disney bought Star Wars, things have escalated quickly. Rogue One was one of the best films of all time, but the new trilogy can be summarized proved that the ability to make a film doesn't make you a good film director. With The Mandalorian, Disney won our hearts back, hopefully, The Book of Boba Fett will be another epic adventure in the depths of the galaxies. Star Wars Visions also made the headlines. Many more series and films have been announced for the next few months and years. So you can tell... Disney is really exploiting Star Wars. And so far it's been going reasonably well. Or as Obi-Wan would say, "We're still flying half a ship."
But horror? Does that really fit with Star Wars? Somehow, I would say so. Sith Lords, aliens, deadly worlds – there's a lot of material for some good horror session. And Mike Flanagan has proven with Midnight Mass that he can tell an epic story with a lot of pathos. So why not with Star Wars?
But whatever happens: We can be sure that we will get a lot more Star Wars in the next few years. Knights of the Old Republic, for example, is getting a remake...
