There is a new open Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic in the works, according to the rumours circling the franchise.
Whilst most of you will be intimately familiar with what I am about to say, I am going to say it anyway because it feels really good to be reminded... KOTOR is not only a beautiful port city in Montenegro, but also the abbreviation for Knights of the Old Republic. The two-part series (released in 2003 and 2005) was an absolutely fabulous RPG that came out during the heyday of the legendary BioWare Studios. Now it looks like we might finally be getting a new open-world Star Wars game!
Fans of the cult classic have been looking for a new instalment for decades, and now they seem to have got a glimmer of light. We're not sure if it's a new Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game that is being developed, but we are pretty sure that an open-world Star Wars game is in the works!
It has been confirmed by Lucasfilm Games that Ubisoft is working on a "brand-new, story-driven, open-world Star Wars adventure". The Twitter confirmation is certainly exciting, with players likely jumping for joy at the concept of an open-world Star Wars game. Here is the announcement, from back in January:

One rumour from earlier in 2021 came from Star Wars insiders Bespin Bulletin and Nate Najda – also known as Shinobi602. In an episode of their Star Wars Podcast, they talked about info on a new Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game that is said to be in development.
Perhaps the most interesting part: it's not coming from EA! So, it's not from BioWare either. After the announcement, this seems to be the next blow against EA's Star Wars monopoly, which as we all know by now, went rather less than well. See a Tweet from Bespin Bulletin about the KOTOR story here.
Bespin Bulletin and Shinobi602 have not been able to reveal much more information yet. But in the podcast, which you can listen to for yourself above, they strongly hinted that it's coming from a studio which will probably not surprise a lot of people... Ubisoft.
