The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 already got confirmed, despite us not even being finished with season 2 yet. If the team behind TSITP continues staying true to the books, we might see our favorite Conklin girl in white this season. Everything you need to know.
Great news on The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3: We got the first three episodes of season 2 July 14, and after just a few weeks, season 3 got confirmed!
Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon and MGM studios, said that fans have been loving this season so far. Viewership more than doubled in comparison to the entirety of season one within a few days after the release, and we only got three episodes. It is now one of the top 10 most-watched seasons of any series streaming on Amazon Prime.
The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 | Possible Release Date
We currently don't know that much about a possible release date, since the show only just got renewed. There was a year between season one and two, so we can only assume the same for Season 3. Although, of course, we do have to keep in mind that the strikes in Hollywood are ongoing, which will probably delay the release a bit.
The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 | Returning Cast & Plot
The series is based on the Summer books by Jenny Han. Because of this, I wrote a prediction of the plot through using the source material and also made my own guesses grounded on the series changes.
Plot Prediction
Spoiler warnings for the books "It's Not Summer Without You"&"We'll Always Have Summer"
The second season of The Summer I Turned Pretty has been such a treat until now. It brought back old beloved characters and introduced new ones like Skye and aunt Julia. We are sad that Minnie Mills, who played the character of Shayla, didn't return to the ensemble, but other than that we saw many familiar faces.
The series has been very faithful to the books so far, with the exceptions that aunt Julia and Skye were created for the series, and that we get to focus more on the side characters, e.g. on the relationship between Taylor and Steven! (I screamed for 7 hours straight after that scene in episode 5. Huge fan.)
Summary of It's Not Summer Without You
In the second book, Belly chooses Jeremiah at the end, since she feels like there is no hope in ever making a relationship with Conrad work. Jeremiah and Belly start dating and are together for 2 years, beginning college together in We'll Always Have Summer.
The story starts in the summer after Belly finishes her freshman year. At a frat party, she finds out at that Jeremiah cheated on her during spring break with a girl called Lacie from his college. He, for some reason, doesn't interpret this as cheating, but this still won't save him from getting dumped by Belly. She is hurt and remembers a moment she shared with Conrad a few months ago, realizing she still loves him. (We will probably get the same types of flashbacks we have this season!)
Realizing his mistake, desperately not wanting to lose Belly, Jeremiah proposes to her, and she accepts because she loves him. Jeremiah announces their engagement to both of their parents, but is met with distraught faces, as Laurel doesn't approve of the marriage at all. She refuses to support the marriage, causing a huge argument, with Belly inevitably moving out.
SPOILER FOR SEASON 2: She starts living in the beach house, (They will save it!) where Conrad is also staying. He is shocked about her sudden arrival, but quickly gets used to their daily routine of her preparing the wedding and him fixing up the house. They start doing some wedding planning together, which makes Jeremiah pretty jealous. Understandable, because it is true that Conny regains some feelings for her. Conrad also goes ahead and manages to fix the relationship between Belly and Laurel.
Feelings between Conrad and Belly only keep growing, and the story reaches its apex when Conny finds out about the cheating. He immediately tries to tell her about it and is shocked when she tells him she already knew. Then he finally confesses to her that he loves her! (I will cry so much when this finally happens on screen, I am team Conrad, so sorry for all the Jelly girlies.)
The day before the wedding, Belly is once again challenged with deciding which brother to choose. (If they don't play Speak Now, I WILL be suing.) She is in a bit of a pickle because she loves both brothers and knows that her decision will wound the other one forever.
On the day of the wedding, Jeremiah vanishes. Conrad goes out to search for him, and they have a fight, where he gets a punch to the face from his brother. He convinces Jere to go back to the wedding with him, but only agrees on the condition that they won't ever see each other again :(
Belly and Jeremiah have a fight where he asks her if she still loves Conrad. She tells him the truth, and they break off the wedding, because Jeremiah knows that he will never have her full heart.
Want to read the books for yourself? You can get Summer Trilogy for a really cheap price here.
At the last few pages of the book a time skip occurs, Belly is now 24 and spends a year abroad in Spain. (might be France in the series, since she seems to be pretty good at it) She and Conrad become pen pals after Conrad reaches out to her a few times. They grow closer again and get married. And don't worry, it seems like Jeremiah and the two will still make up. He says to Belly at the end that he always knew that she and Conrad belonged together, but ignored it, because he loved her so much.
Additional Predictions
Since the amazing team behind The Summer I Turned Pretty try to give extra love to supporting characters, we will surely see more of Taylor and co.
Taylor & Steven
I really hope to see Taylor and Steven find a happy end next season as well. They won my heart over this season after already critically hitting it in the last. We might finally see these adorable dorks end up in a proper commitment.
Skye & Julia
Personally, I really love Skye so far this season. They seem to have a lot of chemistry with Cam Cameron, it was pretty obvious that the both of them have amazing chemistry. I also hope aunt Julia gets some sort of redemption arc this season or next – she doesn't seem like a bad person, just misunderstood and hurt. It would be lovely to find out more about Susannah and the past from her perspective.
Laurel
And of course, I think that Laurel is one of the most underrated characters of this series. The series touched many fans with her story, which revolves a lot around motherhood, platonic friendships, grief and struggles of artists trying to make it out there. She is an incredibly complex and deep character that could provide a lot of material to think about, especially since the mother-daugther conflict between her and Belly seems like it will become a main topic next season.
