Team Envy were among the teams to get eliminated from Flashpoint league’s Season 1 first phase. They got trounced by Made in Brazil and will finish bottom of Group B.
First trio of teams to say goodbye to Flashpoint Phase One
Envy were the first, but definitely not the last team to bite the dust at Flashpoint during the weekend. The American organization was forced to field coach Nikola “LEGIJA” Ninić in their Flashpoint matches and that proved an obstacle too large to overcome.
While Envy stood their ground in the opener vs. Gen.G Esports, Made in Brazil completely obliterated the international roster. It didn’t help that Envy made the weird choice to start on the T-side of both maps. It ended in disaster as mibr held a 12-3 halftime lead on Overpass and Mirage and closed the match with consummate ease.
Copenhagen Wolves faired much better in Group A’s elimination game but it was their compatriots from MAD Lions that won the Danish derby. The two squads were prominent on their own map picks which took us to a Nuke decider. With the game tied at 12 and CW on the defense, MAD Lions made a breakthrough and seized the moment for a valuable 16-13 victory that will keep them in Phase One for at least another game.
The third and final elimination game…was not played. A surprising turn of events left FunPlus Phoenix without a roster and the org was forced to forfeit the match versus Orgless.
What happened is that Astralis have reached an agreement to sign Patrick “es3tag” Hansen after his original contract with former team Heroic expires on June 30. Hansen was part of the roster that FPX were supposed to get from Heroic in a transfer deal that was announced as a fact last week.
From what we could find out, the Chinese organization is not too keen on the arrangement going through under the current situation. As things stand, it is quite possible that FunPlus Phoenix might pull out of Flashpoint and who knows, maybe withdraw from CS:GO altogether.
Surprises at the top
The winners’ clashes were a gambler’s dream. None of Dignitas, Gen.G or c0ntact could stand up to the favorite tag and, in fact, neither came particularly close to winning. The latter at least won a map, something DIG and Gen.G failed to do. HAVU proved they are one of the most in-form sides on the scene currently with this impressive win vs. c0ntact Gaming.
Dignitas and Gen.G fell to Cloud9 and Chaos Esports Club, respectively, in 2-0 sweeps. This leaves c0ntact, Dignitas and Gen.G fighting for their Flashpoint Phase One lives later today. The fixtures are as goes:
- C0ntact Gaming – MAD Lions
- Gen.G – Made in Brazil
- Dignitas – Orgless
The losers will be eliminated. The winners will return to the server tomorrow.
