Kylian Mbappé (Paris Saint-Germain): You might have expected to see a certain Argentinian first on this list, but no, EA believe the young French striker could exceed said Argentinian’s current level of ability. Mbappé is sitting on an 89 overall to start the game but his 95 potential means that eventually, he can become the number one player in the world, at least in the FIFA universe. 2. Lionel Messi (Barcelona): Here he is – the Argentinian magician himself! Messi is the highest-rated player at the start of the game but at 32-years-old, he is understandably not going to get any better with time, meaning Mbappé will take over sooner rather than later. (Image credit: marca.com)

3. Cristiano Ronaldo (Piemonte Calcio): Yes, yes, it’s Juventus, we know. Regardless of what his team’s name is, Ronaldo’s overall score allows him to sit among the “potential” elite for another year. Tied-4. Jan Oblak (Atlético Madrid): It’s a rarity for your team’s star player to be the goalkeeper but that is exactly the case with Spanish side Atletico. Oblak was acknowledged as the best goalkeeper in the world by FIFA 20 and EA believe he could become even better. At 91 overall already, Oblak could push up to 93, matching Cristiano’s current level. Tied-4. Marc-André ter Stegen (Barcelona): And... it's another keeper! German stalwart ter Stegen is considered Barca’s second-best player behind Messi by FIFA 20 and if you’ve watched any of their games these last couple of years, you could see why. At 27-years-old, it’s hard to imagine him getting much better, but keepers are usually late bloomers and EA trusts him to add up to three points to his already impressive score of 90. K. Tied-4. Mathijs de Ligt (Piemonte Calcio): We know! We’re staying on the defensive end of the park with Dutch defender de Ligt. The former Ajax captain is already rated high at 85 and being just 20-years-old, we can see where that 93 potential is coming from. Tied-4. João Felix (Atlético Madrid): Finally, we return to the Spanish capital for the youngest member of the 93 club. Felix turned 20 in November but has already announced himself as the next big thing with a number of impressive performances for club and country.
