So, you're one of those people who's looking for a challenge in career mode and doesn't start with the richest clubs in FIFA 22. Congratulations, because we all know: Only small and poor clubs are fun for several in game years. I mean, who wants to crush the leagues with FC Bayern or Paris Saint-Germain and have an ultimate team right from the start without competition.
Much more exciting is the hunt for the best talents - or being forced to sign free agents because you can barely afford salaries. If you are one of those people who start without much money, you've come to the right place. We also have players who become free agents in summer 2022 – and there are real world-class stars among them. But we want to start with the players without a club that you can get right at the beginning.
FIFA 22 Career Mode: Free Agents
Unfortunately, these are not particularly superstars. The players listed here will only help you if you start with a club in the 2nd or 3rd division. But maybe you just need a substitute or are looking for someone you can turn into money in the winter. After all, they are available for free, so at least you don't have to torment yourself by negotiating with another manager.

Stars Without a Club? Nope!
Unfortunately, EA did not include most of the real life free agents who would certainly enrich many teams. You can see free agents on transfermarkt.com. There are real stars there: Paulinho, Angel Romero, Oscar Romero, Clement Grenier, Fernando, Hatem Ben Arfa, Eliaquim Mangala, Jack Wilshere... and many more. Just underwhelming that they're not in FIFA 22.
The selection of free agents at the start of a new career is really disappointing. But the situation is very different for the players whose contracts are about to expire and who you can secure from January 1st. Mbappé, Pogba and Dybala: stars you might sign for free!

Be aware that most clubs with these players will extend before winter. So, you'd better hit it at the beginning of your career. Of course, you need almost as much money here as Newcastle will have in the future. But you can still get one or two relatively cheap signings. Also, be aware that a player must be older than 22 years if you want to sign them for free in January.
You can get Mbappé for around 150-180 million euros (depending on the difficulty of negotiating, of course). As the best striker in the whole game (especially with his potential), he is definitely worth it. A Pedri or Ansu Fati are also available for their value or even below - and with the right training and playing time, they will be among the best in the world in three years at the latest.
Tip: Use Scouts Correctly In Career Mode
In order to still find players who can be signed in winter for the coming summer without a transfer fee, you should use your scouts properly. They are not only important when it comes to youth players. Unfortunately, you cannot search directly in the transfer menu for players whose contracts will expire at the end of the season.
To do this, simply select network and set the remaining contract time of 0-1 year. Of course, you can also be more precise for what position the scout should search for, or how old the player is allowed to be. Have fun managing your club!
