Position cards and Ultimate Team have been a well-established team for several years now. In FIFA 23, however, EA will change and revise the system – we will get one universal Position Modifier item, instead of specific cards.
Not only did EA change the chemistry system entirely, they also announced another important innovation for FUT in FIFA 23. The system of how to change positions will be revised. You know the drill: In FIFA, the packs contain not only players but also other items such as stadiums, managers, kits, or even position cards. With these items, you could previously change CAMs to CMs or turn LF players into LM players – this system is being redesigned. Since in FUT 23, only players who are in the right positions will receive chemistry, positions in general are once again quite indispensable in FIFA 23 for your success in FUT.You've come to the right place if you want to know how the position changes work in FIFA 23.
New Positions In FIFA Ultimate Team
Up until now, we were used to this in FUT: Each player has exactly one position where he can reach his full chemistry level. This system is outdated. In FIFA 23, each player has one primary position and up to 3 alternate positions where they can play.
Flexible players like James Milner could play four positions in FUT (CM, CDM, RB, LB – just as an example).
Primary and Alternate Positions
The primary position is critical to whether your player gets and contributes chemistry (and your team gets better) or not. It is important that players in your first XI play in their primary position – after the kick-off you can switch. Always keep an eye on the positions. If you place a player in a "wrong" position, you'll see a yellow exclamation point on the bottom left of their card saying they can't play there.
Some main positions also receive automatic secondary positions. So LBs can always be LWBs and vice versa – but if switch a LB to a RB, he won't be automatically a RWB player as well. You can see it in the bottom right of the picture, and you should pay attention to it when you change positions from now on.
EA Removes LF And RF Positions
In addition, EA has announced that there will no longer be "Right Forwards" (RF) and "Left Forwards" (LF). It's just... typical that the new FUT 23 Heroes then had Harry Kewell listed as LF. But EA and FIFA-Fails belong together, like Thomas Müller and Bayern Munich.
Let us put it like this: leaked ratings thanks to Xbox fail of the decade.
How To Change Positions In FIFA 23
Forget the previous 20 different position cards. In FIFA 23 you only need one position item to choose from all available positions for the respective player. After applying the new universal position item, you can pick from your player's alternate positions and change their alternative to their primary position.Unlike in previous years, Manchester City's Joao Cancelo, for example, can play as a right-back and as a left-back. Nice, that brings FUT a little closer to real football. Nevertheless, it's also a bit sad that we then have to create squads in a more limited way. It will no longer be possible to make a central midfielder out of Kylian Mbappé (for the French connection) or out of Icon R9 (for the flex). The system ST –> CF –> CAM –> CM is gone.
We hope that the position cards have a good drop rate and are pulled frequently from packs to keep them fairly priced on the new FUT 23 transfer market.
