In Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 4: Paradise, a mysterious substance appeared on the island in chrome! But don't fret, this will give you tons of new opportunities in the game. Thanks to the Chrome infection, we got a brand new map in season 4, but there is also a fresh new battle pass with tons of new characters.

Let's cut the preamble and dive right in!

Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 4: Map

Obviously, the map changed a lot in comparison to Chapter 3, Season 3.

The Reality Trees are gone, instead we now have Herald's Sanctum where Sanctuary used to be. The Chrome has also taken hold of some places on the island. As a consequence, some locations like Condo Canyon have gone up into the air, to save themselves from the Chrome.

In Chapter 3 Season 4, players can also look forward to a brand new battle pass, which includes a few familiar faces. You can unlock the following characters this season:

  • Paradigm (Reality-659)
  • Bytes
  • Grriz
  • Meow Skulls
  • Lennox Rose
  • Twyn
  • Spider-Gwen

And if you're chromed-up from head to toe, you can also unlock the Herald later in the season!

New Gameplay Features in Season 4

What would a new season be without some new gameplay features? Here are the most important changes:

Keys to Success

When you loot on the island, you may find a key or two. Use them to open safes full of loot! Low security vaults require one key to open, while high security vaults require two keys (but also contain more items!). When you find one or more keys, you can see a keyhole icon on your map that shows you where the safes are located.

Slide Kick

You can now knock back enemy players by sliding towards them! Sure, you need perfect timing for this, but it's a pretty fun feature that Epic has come up with here.

Chrome

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. The game now has something called Chrome Slime. Throw it on the ground to chrome yourself. You will then become pure chrome yourself for a limited time, making you immune to fire damage and turning you into a blob while you sprint. As a blob, you move faster, are immune to falling damage, and can use a sprint while in the air. Sprint into any part of a building to turn it into chrome and walk right through it.
