Every now and then, bizarre rumors surrounding Fortnite surface, with the latest trending topic involving the Tesla and SpaceX owner.
Every now and then, bizarre rumors around Fortnite gain some traction on social media, particularly if they involve celebrities and other kinds of famous people - usually, it's whether they'll receive cosmetics like skins or special live events within the game.
This time, it's a bit different, as Elon Musk allegedly trying to buy Fortnite became a trending topic on social media the past few days. It's no surprise since the eccentric billionaire is linked with buying all sorts of things, from social media platforms like Twitter to football clubs like Manchester United.
Is there any real validity to these rumors? Well, we have good news or bad ones, depending on whether you wanted the Tesla and SpaceX owner to buy Fortnite or Epic Games.
Is Elon Musk Really Buying Fortnite?
Let's get the big question out of the way - no, Elon Musk is not buying Fortnite. So where does the rumor stand from or why did it even begin in the first place?
As you may or may not know, Elon Musk is a rather active Twitter user, usually chiming on whatever the latest trend is on the platform. He also hasn't shied away from sharing his takes on gaming, with users constantly asking for his opinion on their favorite titles.
Earlier in the year, Musk was keen on buying Twitter for reasons only clear to him. For the rest of us, it was simply a strange billionaire trying to stay in touch with the youth. Talks fell down and the deal never happened, however, that solidified the "Elon Musk buys everything," meme, which naturally reached Fortnite.
What added even more fuel to speculation was that Musk himself jokingly quote tweeted a fake headline stating he had bought Fortnite in 2018, with users implying that it could've been foreshadowing his eventual acquisition - something that, of course, was simply people reaching for straws.
