One year ago, there was a lot of speculation about a possible proximity chat in Fortnite. And according to the latest leaks, we could get it in the early future! Funny clips incoming?
The proximity chat is already a popular feature in games like Rust or Sea of Thieves. So it's not really surprising that the Fortnite Community wants that one too. For those who never heard anything about a proximity chat: It's a chat mechanic that allows you to hear other players depending on their distance to you in game, just like in real life. This leads to quite a lot of hilarious and funny clips.

Currently, it seems that Epic Games is working pretty intensely on that function, to bring it to Fortnite. Chaos is calling!
Proximity Chat Coming To Fortnite
The Fortnite leaker BeastFNCreative already posted some hints of a proximity chat a year ago, when he found some really interesting game files.

By now, according to some leaks, Epic is said to have completed initial beta tests. That would mean that proximity chat could debut in Creative Mode in the near future. Given the variety of new game modes in creative recently because of the new UEFN, proximity chat seems most suitable there. The leaks, as usual, come from Hypex.

This is further compounded by another leak from iFireMonkey, which shows a screenshot with various setting-options for Creative Mode. Map creators will be able to set how close players need to be to hear each other.

Proximity Chat In Fortnite: Release Date
The exact release date for Proximity Chat in Fortnite is still not known. But the leaks and long time of preparation suggest that we could see this feature in Fortnite Creative pretty soon.
According to the leaked Fortnite roadmap, proximity chat will be released in creative mode between October and December.

Its implementation in the Battle Royale mode is currently just speculation. However, it's unlikely that proximity chat will ever be a permanent feature in the regular Battle Royale, but it might appear as a special game mode.
