The Valorant Mandatory.GG Cup came to an end over the weekend and G2 grabbed yet another title after defeating Bonk in the grand finals.
Valorant’s Mandatory.GG Cup was the event with the most participating teams so far – 128. It was also part of the Valorant Ignition Series and offered a total prize pool of €15,000. Among the 128 teams, we found some of the biggest esports organizations in Europe – G2 Esports, Ninjas in Pyjamas, ForZe, fish123 (future Team Liquid) and others.
Due to the huge number of teams, the event didn’t have a group stage. Up until the quarterfinals, all matches were a Bo1, meaning one loss equalled elimination. The top four of the tournament turned out to be G2 Esports, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Bonk and BBL Esports. G2 eliminated BBL with a 2:0, while NiP fans were let down as Bonk took out the big European org. This led to a clash between G2 and Bonk in the grand finals.
So Who Are Bonk?
It’s a newly formed roster that officially formed on July 3. Ever since then the team participated in a couple of Valorant events, getting second place at a weekly Valorant academy event and second place at Absolute Masters. The team consists of:
- Malkolm "bonkar" Rench
- Yacine "Yacine" Laghmari
- Saif "Sayf" Jibraeel
- Leo "ziz" Jannesson
- Aron "xajdish" Fredriksson
Most of the players seem to have previous competitive experience in Valve’s CS:GO. That explains their sudden success in Valorant as most of the big teams appear to be hiring former CS:GO players.
The Finals
G2 and Bonk met in the grand finals and it didn’t go well for Bonk as G2 showed they’re the better team with a 3:0 victory. The Spanish organization grabbed €10,000 and its third consecutive title in a Valorant event. The previous two include the Vitality European Open and the WePlay! Invitational.

Bonk might have fallen short of taking the first place in the Mandatory.GG Cup but something tells us we’ll be seeing more of them soon. The next event in line is the FaZe Clan Invitational set to kick off this Thursday (August 6). The tournament will gather some of the best Valorant teams in North America – TSM, Cloud9, Sentinels, T1, FaZe, and others.
