With the final episode of the Last of Us airing, it's got us nostalgic and playing the games once more. But what if you knew that there had once been talks of a prequel game?
The Last of Us is over and now we feel that hollowness in our chest as we contemplate life and all its meaning. When will The Last of Us Season 2 finally come out, and how will it differ from the second game? We need more, but another tidbit of information has us aching for more, the idea of a prequel game that had been in the works at some point.
On a recent podcast The Last of Us creative director Neil Druckmann revealed of their plans regarding a prequel about Ellie's mother.
The Last of Us Prequel Would Have Been About Ellie's Mom
In the ninth episode of The Last of Us, fans get a glimpse of Ellie's mom, Anna, something the games never truly explored, which is why there could have been a lot to showcase in a prequel game.
On the video game podcast Kinda Funny, Druckman explained that had wanted to give Anna more of a backstory and turn that into a video game. The game wouldn't have been developed by Naughty Dog though.
Druckman never named the studio he'd been in talks with regarding the game, but he did state that the talks fell through after quite a while of discussion.
- How often have you played The Last of Us already? Play something else like Elden Ring sometime!
It seems that we won't be seeing anymore of Anna's story anytime soon, with Naughty Dog currently working on an unannounced game – maybe The Last of Us 3...?
We’re already into our next project, so the decision has already been made. I can’t say what it is, but [...] there was a lot of consideration of different things, and we picked the thing we were most excited for.
So it seems highly likely that the next game won't be the prequel, but we should be excited since there are other great games we could be getting. Until then, we will have to stay patient to find out more.
