Now that both the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S have launched, the video game calendar is what we really care about. Let's see what we can expect from the first post-launch month – December!
A lot of games have been set for a "late 2020 release" but there are surprisingly few with an actual confirmed release date. Don't expect to see anything that hasn't been given a specific date of birth here because we wouldn't want to disappoint you in case of a last-minute delay in release. That being said, let's see what December's got for next-gen console players!
Worms Rumble
- Release date: December 1
- Platforms: PS5
Worms, a franchise a quarter of a century old, makes its return with a new release after a four-year hiatus. Those looking for originality will be disappointed to find out that Worms Rumble is just another Battle Royale...with worms!
Rainbow Six Siege
- Release date: December 1
- Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege is too big of a hit to not make it into next gen. The tactical shooter will receive its makeup at the crack of the month. Does 4K resolution and 120 FPS sound good to you? It does to us.
Haven
- Release date: December 3
- Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S
Haven is a cute co-op adventure game in which two lovers are trying to create, you guessed it, a haven for themselves on a distant planet. This one has an obvious target audience and there's nothing wrong with that. We can attest that playing Haven with your boo is a much better idea than raging together in CS:GO.
At least there are lower chances that someone is sleeping on the couch later.
Immortals Fenyx Rising
- Release date: December 3
- Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S
Gods & Monsters, sorry, Immortals Fenyx Rising, is the eBay version of God of War. It is a fun spin of the whole "fighting ancient mythological creatures" thing with a shiny open world to explore. And we do mean shiny! It's like the Sun never goes down in that realm. Sheesh!
FIFA 21
- Release date: December 4
- Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S
FIFA 21's next-gen version is coming on December 4 in all its glory, bugs and microtransactions. The latest installment in the FIFA series is already available to play on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but it's just a backwards compatibility version. The real deal is coming in a few days.
Madden NFL 21
- Release date: December 4
- Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S
What was said above about FIFA 21 can also be said for NFL Madden 21. The slight difference is that if FIFA fans haven't been thrilled by the recent releases within the series, Madden fans are going ballistic over NFL 21. Just look at that like-to-dislike ratio under the next-gen trailer and you'll get the picture.
Puyo Puyo Tetris 2
- Release date: December 8
- Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S
The crossover of all puzzle crossovers is back for a sequel! Solve a bunch of puzzles and save the world from... a Dimensional Parasite?! Well okay, then. At least we'll know what to do if one of those parasites decides to visit Earth. Kill it with puzzle-solving!
Temtem
- Release date: December 8
- Platforms: PS5
Any fans of Pokémon? Not a fan of Pokémon games lately? There's Temtem for you! They're not even trying to hide it. It's marketed as a Pokémon-like video game. Kudos to the developers for not lying to the audience. It looks like a fun experience, too, especially compared to what Nintendo's been pumping out recently.
Note: Temtem will be released for Xbox Series X|S at a later date.
Call of the Sea
- Release date: December 8
- Platforms: Xbox Series X|S
The Xbox exclusive adventure game Call of the Sea looks very promising. It's an atmospheric piece that, if its puzzles and discoveries are as rewarding as advertised, has the potential to be one of the better late-year releases of 2020.
Cyberpunk 2077
- Release date: December 10
- Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S
We're not going to make any jokes about Cyberpunk 2077's postponed release. We just want the bloody thing to finally come out and preferably, to live up to the enormous hype. An alright product won't cut it, so CD Projekt have better made good use of the additional time they gave themselves.

Override 2: Super Mech League
- Release date: December 22
- Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S
Some games require a certain mood to be enjoyed. Override 2: Super Mech League is not such a game. The giant robots smashing each other over their metallic heads is something to be enjoyed in any mood and setting.
