According to Xbox-focused insiders, Microsoft seems to be working with Platinum Games to bring back their canceled game Scalebound.
In 2014, Microsoft announced the exciting first-time partnership with developer PlatinumGames (Nier: Automata, Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising Revengeance) to make Scalebound, an epic and hugely ambitious action game. Unfortunately the game was plagued by development issues, pushed back to 2017 and then canceled that year. Very sad. But dry your tears, friends: Scalebound might be coming back!
The Best Xbox Game To Never Be Might Be Revived
This wonderful bit of hope comes from the Xbox Era podcast, more concretely from co-host Shpeshal_Nick, an insider who is in the know about all things Xbox and who has been a trusted source for some time. According to him, "PlatinumGames is working with Xbox again to look at bringing back Scalebound."
While Mr. Nick is a decent source in general, we of course have to take this with a grain of salt until it is officially confirmed. He also caveats everything by saying that it is still "very, very early" and that it is not clear, whether the game will be picked up or if development will start again.
Still, this is pretty exciting and it would make sense. Platinum used many ideas and assets from Scalebound and put them into Bayonetta 3, their latest game. We could see them giving ideas like the big, controllable summons another shot, especially since the Xbox One struggled with the high demands of the game.
