Several reports have surfaced on Reddit, that Black Ops Cold War is crashing their Xbox Series X and has even prevented the console from rebooting. Let's take a look at what is known.
It wouldn’t be an Xbox release if there wasn’t a console bricked for some innocuous reason. In this case, it seems to beCall of Duty Black Ops Cold War causing players great stress by simply playing the game. Imagine buying a $500 console and it breaking after a week, for simply using it for its designed function: to play video games. So far, it is only a handful of reports, but the initial Reddit thread is gaining some traction.
Word of Caution Xbox Series X from blackopscoldwar
So along with the poor unlucky player whose console just decided to go RIP, several other players have come forward with reports of bugs and crashes involving Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War. Is this problem caused by the huge 95 GB file size? No one knows exactly. Well... maybe Treyarch actually does know, as a verified Treyarch dev broke the silence (somebody always breaks the silence):
"Generally speaking, we're investigating all crashes and across the game. We outline to contact our Player Support so that you can share details with them and they collate the feedback. My immediate recommendations are to make sure that you're using the correct version for your platform. Players have also shared that disabling Ray Tracing on XSX has helped. LMK if it does."
Oh no, not Ray Tracing! Anything but that! You were the Chosen One, Ray Tracing! It was said that you would destroy bad graphics, not join them. You were to bring balance to gaming, not leave it in darkness.
Let the meme wars begin...!
Solution: You're not going to like it, but... uhm... don’t play Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War on your Xbox Series X.
Also, try disabling Ray Tracing?.
