Call of Duty Meets Fortnite: Epic Games Working On New Shooter

Epic Games, the creators of Fortnite, have been quietly assembling a team of legendary ex-CoD devs. They're working on a new shooter game, and (thanks to LinkedIn) we've been made aware of yet another new hire.

Fortnite is still doing very well. Chapter 4 Season 3 is just around the corner, everyone is loving Fortnite Creative, and more collabs keep coming. But, as with all things, it won't last forever.

Epic Games, the creators of Fortnite, are clearly aware that they will need new titles to one day replace their BR. And one of their projects can be predicted quite easily based on the people they're hiring. It's a new shooter developed by ex-CoD devs.

Epic Hires CoD Veterans To Work On New Shooter

One of the higher-ups at Epic Games, Steve Allison, went on record in 2021 to claim that there were "over 14 projects in development" at the publisher's HQ. And we think we know exactly what one of the games will be. We believe that Epic are working a new CoD-style shooter because they hired Jason West in 2019 (West is a co-founder of Infinity Ward, and until CoD: MW3 he was "steering the ship").

"2019? Why is this news?",ou're probably thinking. Well, we're now suspecting that Mackay McClandish, who is another veteran CoD dev, has also been poached by Epic Games. This is because he recently changed his LinkedIn location to Cary, North Carolina, which is the Epic Games HQ.

This suggests that Jason West wasn't just a single hire being brought on for managerial expertise, and instead implies the creation of a new CoD-style shooter. We'll keep an eye on ex-CoD devs and new hires at Epic Games, but we're 99% sure we're on to something here.

What would you like to see Epic Games work on next? A new shooter, or something else? The Fortnite racing mode certainly looks promising.
