The Cities: Skylines console release has been greatly delayed! Publisher Paradox Interactive and game developer Colossal Order have just announced the delay on Cities Skylines 2's official website. They explained that they were not satisfied with the quality of the console version and need time to reach their desired quality standards.

Thus, the release of Cities Skylines 2 PS5 and Xbox Series X version is delayed until next year, while PC players will get access just as planned on October 24.

In Cities: Skylines II, players build detailed cities on an epic scale. Complex economic systems present players with decisions that affect the entire city. This second installment of the original Cities: Skylines now also allows each citizen to have their own individual life, including occupation, household, relationships and more, making cities feel more alive than ever.

Paradox and Colossal Order just announced the bad news on the release date delay of Cities: Skylines 2. In a blog post on their website, the publisher and developer explained the circumstances:

We are hard at work preparing the game for our release on October 24th. While doing so, we have realized that we need more time to reach the quality targets we have set for Console. As we want to provide the best experience for our players, we are updating the release window for Xbox and PS5 to Spring 2024. (Source: paradoxinteractive.com)

Unfortunately, they didn't give out more information about the new release date. All we know is that they are planning on releasing Cities Skylines 2 on console during spring 2024. With all the info given from Paradox and Colossal Order, we assume the release to be in the time frame from January to March 2024.

If you don't want to wait for next year to play the new Cities Skylines, you can also get it on PC. Did you know that it is included in the Xbox Game Pass? How amazing is that? Now you can even get it FOR FREE!

Anyone who has pre-ordered Cities Skylines 2 on console is probably wondering what will happen to their order, since the release date has been delayed and there isn't even an official date in sight. In a statement issued to IGN, Paradox said that pre-orders will automatically be refunded for now, so that the customer doesn't have to take action themselves. Once the new release date is set in stone, pre-orders for the console version will open again.

In the official blog post, the developer noted how they want to use this extra time to focus on matching the quality and performance across all platforms. Although this is a delay of at least 2–3 months, it is important to see things from the brighter side of life. This way, we will at least see a more polished and perfected version of the new Cities Skylines from the beginning on!
