After another update for CS2, information was found in the game's code, that a fan-favorite map might return to Counter Strike.
Counter Strike 2 is one of the most anticipated games in 2023. The tactical first-person shooter from Valve is in a limited test phase at the moment, with only a handful of players having access to the game.
On August 15, Valve released an update, containing multiple small changes. The moment, the update was published, coders went into the source code in search for changes, especially the ones that you can't find in the patch notes. And they found some things...
A Fan-Favorite Map Might Return In Counter Strike 2
The release notes didn't bring many surprises with them. Anubis and Ancient got removed after being in play for the past two weeks, therefore the competitive queues have been disabled. Some visual changes were made to the "StatTrak" position and sticker sizes on the M4, and the smoke cloud shape looks more like the CS:GO smoke again.
However, the Twitter user Aquarius found some fascinating information in the game's code material list, allowing speculations for a comeback of a map, most of us truly love:

Yes, there are mapping elements for Cobblestone in the source code for Counter Strike 2. Cobblestone has been removed from 5v5 in 2019, but is available in the Wingman-mode up to this day in CS:GO. The findings not only suggest a return of Cobblestone, but also a remake in some sort of way.
The first rumors for a potential comeback of Cobblestone go back as far as March 2023. It is not known if the materials found by Aquarius will hint to a comeback of Cobblestone as a map for competitive play. It can also just be a rework of the Wingman map.
But of course, the community is hyped, and I can understand that. Cobblestone has produced some of the most iconic moments of this game. Snax's 1v4 Pistol Round retake on B-site, Moe's "Chicken fucking coop" or the AWP Ace from Paz on A-site against Cloud9.
I would love to see Cobblestone making a return to the CS brand in Counter Strike 2, I certainly don't want to wait any longer for CS2.
