After a tumultuous half-year of bug fixes and patches galore, Cyberpunk 2077 is the most downloaded game on the PlayStation Store in June. More puzzling is that it is the most downloaded PlayStation 4 game in June, despite the Sony's warnings. How did Cyberpunk 2077 top the PS Store?
It's no secret that Cyberpunk 2077 is a divisive game. When it launched in December of 2020, the game was riddled with game breaking bugs, especially on last-gen consoles, ran like doodoo, and was missing a ton of pivotal features. All in all, the disaster forced Sony to pull the game from the PS Store a short time after the game's launch. In the six months that have followed, the game has been gradually patched, and is now the most downloaded game on the PlayStation Store in June.
CD Projekt Red have somehow managed to achieve sneaky success with Cyberpunk 2077, despite the game being maligned for being broken at launch. It may be half a year old now, but here's the latest in this debacle...

Cyberpunk 2077 Tops the PlayStation Store
Cyberpunk 2077 is now the most downloaded game on the PlayStation, indeed the PlayStation 4 store, despite Sony's warnings against buying the game on last-gen consoles. What's even more unbelievable is that the game shot to number one only days after the game was returned to the PlayStation Store, having been removed back in December.
After being removed from the PlayStation Store on December 17, 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 returned to PS4 on June 21. After about six months of intense play testing, bug fixing, and patching, the game has been deemed fixed on most platforms. Despite player's hopes for a fixed game, Sony issued the following statement upon the game's reintroduction to the PS Store:
"Users will continue to experience performance issues with the PS4 edition while CD Projekt Red continues to improve stability across all platforms... SIE recommends playing the title on PS4 Pro or PS5 for the best experience."
As we stated, despite the above warning, and the tremendous reputational damage that CD Projekt Red has suffered in recent months, Cyberpunk 2077 still managed to become the top-selling game in North America and Europe.
The whole thing might seem a bit surprising, but we all need to remember that Cyberpunk 2077 was possibly the most highly-anticipated game of 2020. Despite its incredibly broken launch, Cyberpunk 2077 actually released to initially positive reception, and was a pretty decent game. The game is now – for the most part – fixed, and those of us who have continued to hold out on the game, are keen to try out what should have been a true next-gen experience.
