Apple is going to end the separation between mobile gaming and the world of AAA. In a recent showcase, the iPhone 15 Pro's mindblowing computing power was unveiled to the world. This device is capable of running modern console and PC games like Assassin's Creed and Death Stranding, and it even has ray-tracing.
Your first thought was probably "they mean the iPhone 15 can stream games like Assassin's Creed Mirage", but we don't. It really will be able to run these games natively. It was going to happen one day, but it still feels like a wildly impressive achievement from Apple.
Now, to be clear, this isn't going to become some kind of "Switch killer". After all, the iPhone 15 Pro is going to cost $1000, whereas the PS5 is half that and the Series S is only a quarter, but it's still remarkable that they've been able to get this kind of capability into something so small. And we should see the tech trickle down over time.
Here is the segment from the showcase about gaming on the iPhone 15 Pro:
We still question how enjoyable it will be to play these games with only a touchscreen. But, if anyone is going to invest a thousand dollars on an iPhone as their new go-to handheld, they can probably afford a controller to boot.
The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro will release on September 22. The iPhone 15 will be available from $799, and the iPhone 15 Pro from $999.
