Collecting Dirt: Overview

Follow these instructions to collect dirt in Enshrouded:

  1. Craft a pickaxe (1 x Stone, 4 x Twigs, 1 x String).
  2. Use the pickaxe to mine dirt.

Yep, it's every bit as simple as you might have imagined.

Collecting Dirt: Walkthrough

1. Craft A Pickaxe

To collect dirt, you need a pickaxe. First collect these items:

  • 1 x Stone: Collected by hitting rocks with bladed weapons.
  • 4 x Twigs: Collected by hitting small trees with bladed weapons.
  • 1 x String: Harvest three plant fibers from bushes and then open your crafting menu (press V) and select string.

Now open your crafting menu (press V) and select the standard pickaxe to create it.

For a longer-lasting pickaxe, you can go to the blacksmith with eight Metal Scraps and one piece of Shroud Wood, and he can make you a "Scrappy Pickaxe". Here is where to find the pickaxe in the Blacksmith menu:

Metal Scraps can be collected from above-Shroud enemies, and Shroud Wood is collected from trees you find in the Shroud.

2. Mine Dirt

With your pickaxe, mine any area where you can see grass to collect dirt. You can get find these areas very easily, they look just like this:

Just hack at the ground with your pickaxe and you will automatically collect dirt:

You cannot use bladed weapons to gather dirt, you will need a pickaxe.

What Can You Use Dirt For In Enshrouded?

Dirt is combined with Wood Logs in a Charcoal Kiln to make Charcoal. You can make a kiln at the blacksmith (30 Stone, 10 Metal Scrap, 10 Charcoal, 12 Wood Logs). And charcoal is essential to operating the Forge.

And there you have it, you can now collect as much dirt as you need - so get out there, and get dirty.
