In a recent earnings call, it was revealed that GTA 5 & Red Dead Redemption 2 reached even more dizzying heights in terms of their success.
Publisher Take-Two, parent company of Rockstar Games, has recently had their quarterly earnings call, where they talked about a whole bunch of different topics concerning Rockstar. Among the many talking points, it was revealed that Rockstar's two big boy franchises, Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption , have once again built upon their success and reached new milestones in terms of sales.
GTA & RDR Are Still Selling Incredibly Well
Take-Two announced that GTA 5 has sold a dizzying 170 million copies in its lifetime. 170! Damn. It's still shocking, how goddamn popular that game still is, even nine years after release. Sales are (finally) starting to slow down, as it is just an increase of five million compared to last quarter, but the longevity of this game is still respectable.
Are you as excited about GTA 6 as we are? Then check out this video where we summarized everything we know about the game:
The entire Grand Theft Auto franchise has sold over 385 million units, which means it surpasses Super Mario (383 million) as one of the best-selling franchises of all time. Super impressive stat as well. This means that GTA 5, just one game, is making up almost 45% of the entire franchise's success. Sheesh...
Slightly less impressive but still very strong is the performance of Red Dead Redemption. The cowboy franchise yeehaw'd its way to over 70 million sold games. Unfortunately, concrete numbers for each of the two games have not been revealed. Definitely a strong performance by Rockstar in the last decade. Do you think GTA 6 will be able to replicate this success? We might be a bit skeptical about that...
