GTA Online Servers Finally Shutting

The end of an era is upon us; the GTA online servers are closing down on old consoles. But which consoles, and why?

GTA 5 came out in 2013. Which is pretty bonkers when you think about it. It was released for Xbox 360 and PS3. And yet all this time GTA Online has shown us it can retain a huge audience and keep them interested in seasonal updates. And the amount of money they've made on Shark Cards? Let's just say a lot of people at Rockstar got very rich. But now that era is slowly starting to wrap up, people are talking about the next GTA, and the next Red Dead, and the servers are finally being closed on the old consoles.

Which GTA Online Servers are closing down?

The PS3 and Xbox 360 servers for Grand Theft Auto: Online will be closing down this winter. Before we alarm too many of you, please don't worry, the PS4 and Xbox One servers will be unaffected.

When are the GTA Online Servers closing?

The old-gen console servers for Grand Theft Auto: Online will close down on December 16. Which is absolutely fair enough, at this point you can get a PS4 or an Xbox One for very little if you don't have enough for a current gen console. Rockstar haven't released the figures, but we would be very surprised if the old-gen consoles still had much of a playerbase at all for GTA: Online.

So GTA: Online is going the way of Halo 3 this December, and the lights are finally being turned off. Sad days, to be sure. But at least we have new games on the Horizon to play...
