Everything About GTA Trilogy Just Leaked: Unreal Engine & More

Finally, we got some official leaks from Rockstar themselves: After the devs updated the GTA launcher, data miners found some details on the GTA Trilogy Remaster.

Don't call it a comeback. Seriously, don't. After over 20 years since the trilogy was released, and after 8 years since GTA 5 released, I'm taking this as a win. Yes, the GTA Trilogy Remaster is my new GTA. Why? Because I was about 10 years old when GTA III was released, and I also know that some of you weren't even born yet. So, playing through GTA III and Vice City on Unreal Engine 4 is going to feel like a whole new game. Oh, yeah, the Trilogy remaster is going to be running on Unreal Engine 4 – and that's just one part of the massive leak.

Update: It's more than just leaks now, because Rockstar just released the actual trailer for the GTA Trilogy Remaster:

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Remaster – Huge Leak

GTA Trilogy Remaster Runs on Unreal Engine 4

Probably the most interesting part about this leak: The GTA Trilogy Remaster will run on Unreal Engine 4. This is interesting, since all of Rockstar's games usually run on their very own RAGE engine. Thus, this confirms that the remaster will be more akin to a remake, since it will be running on an entirely different engine. Nice.

Data miners also found the official branding for the new games. Yup, it's all sitting right there in the GTA launcher, and if that doesn't convince you that Rockstar is getting ready for launch, then I don't know what more you want.

GTA Trilogy Remaster Achievements

Those busy data miners also uncovered the redesigned achievements for GTA III, GTA Vice City, and GTA San Andreas. Interestingly, the new designs still clearly maintain that retro vibe. It will be even more interesting to see what the actual game will look like, since outlets like Kotaku hinted that the game might be mixing old and new graphics.

GTA Trilogy Remaster Is Coming to Mobile & Switch

That's right, Rockstar is releasing the Trilogy's Definitive Remaster for mobile devices, as well as the Nintendo Switch. Naturally, the game is also releasing for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and the PC. It sure is interesting to see them make that decision of bringing it to mobile and the Switch, though, since the performance gap between the Nintendo Switch and the PS5 is rather large. Will we maybe get several versions of the same game? Or will the GTA Triolgy Remaster be severely underwhelming on the next-gen systems? Only time will tell, but luckily, we won't have to wait too long, since everything points to the game being released in November.
