PlayStation have finally come to a deal with a Valve, and so we can now confirm that Half-Life: Alyx will be coming to the PlayStation VR2 when it's released.
Before any of you get super excited because you think we're talking about the long-awaited Half-Life 2 sequel, we're not. Half-Life: Alyx is a VR spinoff, that was previously released on Steam in 2020. It's a really solid game, but it's not Half-Life 3 (although we did recently learn some key details about an unreleased Half-Life expansion). In Half-Life: Alyx you play as a teenage version of the titular character five years before the events of Half-Life 2, in City 17. And we thought we would never be able to play it on PSVR, but thankfully Sony have come to a deal with Valve.
Half-Life: Alyx Confirmed For PlayStation VR2
According to The Leak, Sony have finally come to an agreement with Valve after long negotiations, and they've bought the rights to publish Half-Life Alyx for the PSVR2 in 2023. But, Half-Life: Alyx won't be released as soon as the PSVR2 is, instead it will launch shortly afterwards.
Here's exactly what The Leak's source told them:
Our source has told us that Sony were in negotiations with Valve about Half-Life Alyx for a long time before reaching a settlement. The game has been exclusive for most PC-compatible VR headsets but Sony has bought the rights to have it published in 2023.According to our source it will not be released alongside the VR2 launch.
It's slightly unusual that Sony will publish the game and not Valve, but that should ensure a smoother rollout out of the product for PSVR2's users. We don't yet know whether this will be an "ultimate" edition of the game or just a straight port, but we will of course update you as soon as we hear more.
What do you think? Will this be enough to tempt you into buying PlayStation VR2?
The Half-Life series is iconic, but at this point most of the games are probably too old to be enjoyed by some...
