Valve is working on a new game set within the Half-Life universe, which is supposedly custom-tailored for the Steam Deck.
Valve is working on a new game. Yup, read that again, and, yup, you read that right. Twice. A new game by Valve. That only happens like... never. Of course, the timing makes perfect sense, since Valve is releasing their very own new system, a glorious f*** you to the Nintendo Switch: The Steam Deck. Or, as I like to call it: The Everything Nintendo Isn't And Everything Nintendo Is, aka, The Better Handheld. With the Steam Deck now releasing in February 2022, Valve wants to make sure the thing sells, and what better way than to bait people with exclusives from one of the world's most elusive developers? Especially, when you, yourself, are that developer.
Valve Is Working on a Half-Life Game for the Steam Deck
Alright, so here's the skinny: The game is code-named Citadel and Valve News Network's very own Tyler McVicker talks about it on his YouTube channel. According to him, Citadel will be an FPS/RTS co-op game that is set within the Half-Life universe and based on the franchise. Expect something akin to Left 4 Dead with RTS elements: "[It's as if] Left 4 Dead, Alien Swarm, an RTS, and Half-Life are having a baby."
Originally, the game was supposed to contain VR elements, but that has been scrapped in favor of having the game be native to the Steam Deck: "[Citadel is] the best showcase of what the Steam Deck is capable of."
Hyped yet? Don't get too impatient, because the game is still about two years away, meaning that it won't be a Steam Deck launch title in February. Who knows, maybe after this little detour, we will finally be getting Half-Life 3...
