The run-up to Christmas this year will see the release of some great shooters: Battlefield 2042, CoD: Vanguard, and Halo Infinite. Many players won't have the time or money for all three though, so let's take a closer look at these titles. Today we're going to ask: which is better, Halo Infinite or Battlefield 2042?2021 is a big year for shooter fans. And although both Halo Infinite and Battlefield 2042 have already been postponed this year, their new release dates seem definite. In both cases, the delays weren't a problem per se, we just hope they used the time to improve the games. With the unpleasantness of delays dealt with, what are some positive reasons for choosing one game over the other?
Halo Infinite vs. Battlefield 2042
Why You Should Get Halo Infinite
Halo Infinite could recapture the magic of Halo 3. It's being billed as a reboot akin to Modern Warfare 2019 - the game that rejuvenated the franchise. So for nostalgia alone, the game might be worth it; expect a ton of map reworks and nods to the golden era of Halo. Likewise, the campaign will continue the Master Chief story, so you'll get your time with the big man himself, and who knows, probably, even more, nods to the most beloved missions from the franchise. We also like that 343 postponed the release and reworked all the major community complaints after the first round of testing. More than most studios, they've shown an openness with their project that we love. Though the rework does mean that not all features will be available immediately upon release. Forge and Firefight won't be unlocked until a later date, which is a bit disappointing. Another point we have to mention against buying Halo Infinite, is that the multiplayer is free-to-play. This is a canny move because Halo will already have a much harder time being relevant without the PlayStation userbase. So going free-to-play will bring in the punters, but the people who want to buy the game will need to be in it for the campaign. If you're only in it for Halo's multiplayer, then spend your cash elsewhere.

Why You Should Get Battlefield 2042
Battlefield 4's story will finally continue with Battlefield 2042, and it looks really strong. Yes, Battlefield 1 was epic - we don't want to talk about Hardline or BFV now - but BF2042 finally brings us back to Modern Warfare and, above all, familiar characters. The action, the graphics, the destructible environment - the best game modes of the past few years. And did you see the trailer? Damn, it is going to be a great game!Does Battlefield have problems too? Apparently yes, otherwise it wouldn't have been postponed again. But we're quietly confident it's only a few smaller issues and potentially a rework of Specialists, but if you want to be on the safe side, you might want to wait for the release first.
If both these games can overcome whatever forced the delays, then you're looking at two fantastic titles. But Battlefield is offering more innovation with things like Hazard Zone, where Halo is deliberately and nostalgically looking back at its own legacy.
Which is better is subjective, but ultimately, Halo's multiplayer is free, so we think for most people it makes more sense to get Battlefield if you can only afford one. You can still play the biggest part of Halo.
