Developers of the Halo Master Chief Collection have expressed an interest in increasing player capacity for the older Halo games, potentially all the way to 60 players. For fans of the original trilogy, of which there are millions, this could be the realization of a long-held dream. We've got all the details right here.

To have 32 players per side on some of those old Halo 2 and 3 maps would be a dream, it would be utter chaos, but such a beautiful thing to see. At the time of those games' releases, it hardly seemed possible, but we're living in the future now.

This is more than just good news for nostalgic Halo fans, though, it also points us in the direction of what we might expect with Halo Infinite. The Master Chief Collection developers have used the game as a testing ground for other potential additions to the franchise, as they did with the Battle Pass, and we could be seeing the same thing here.

What Did The Developers Say About Increased Player Counts In Halo?

The developers at 343 industries took to stream recently and announced expectantly their experimentation with greater player numbers. They said this while playing Halo 3 but seemed to be talking about the original trilogy as a whole.Take a listen for yourself:

Now it's still very early days, and they were clearly talking about their long–term plans. But as we mentioned earlier, the Master Chief Collection is being used to trial potential features in Halo Infinite, and if Halo Infinite is free–to–play, then they'll want a lot of different 'styles' of Halo to draw the big numbers in. Perhaps a ground–war style Halo could be the way to go, at least one of the ways to go.

For now, though, we can only wait (and salivate) at the prospect of going back to Halo 3 with twice the player count. We're just stuck wondering which map we would most want to play first.
