Hogwarts Legacy expands on the Dark Lord's lineage by revealing details about the family which the villain came from.
Ominis Gaunt, a fellow fifth-year in Slytherin, is introduced in Hogwarts Legacy and offers a unique perspective on the sinister Gaunt family. Despite being related to them, he despises his own kin and reveals their truly horrific nature, further cementing their reputation as the most evil family in Hogwarts Legacy.
As a Slytherin in Hogwarts Legacy, you'll encounter Ominis Gaunt early on in the game. He's a key character with a fascinating family background that becomes more apparent as you advance. Ominis is a direct descendant of Salazar Slytherin, one of Hogwarts' four founders.
Ominis Gaunt was born into the notorious pure-blood House of Gaunt, known for their cruelty, power, and twisted ways. However, unlike his family, Ominis rejected the Dark Arts and was subjected to cruel treatment by his father Marvolo Gaunt, who used the Cruciatus Curse on him instead of Muggles. This upbringing left Ominis with lasting emotional scars, causing him to be pessimistic, distrustful, and sarcastic.
How Is Ominus Related To Lord Voldemort?
In the Harry Potter series, it's revealed that Lord Voldemort, born Tom Riddle, was descended from Salazar Slytherin through his mother Merope Gaunt. Like Voldemort, Ominis Gaunt, who is introduced in Hogwarts Legacy, is also a Parselmouth and a descendant of Salazar Slytherin. This raises the question of whether Ominis and Voldemort are related, and according to the Harry Potter lore, it's likely, since the Gaunt family was directly descended from Slytherin.
Since Hogwarts Legacy takes place before the Harry Potter events, it's plausible that Ominis is an ancestor of Voldemort.
It's not entirely clear what the exact relation between Ominis Gaunt and Lord Voldemort is, but it's likely that Ominis is a direct ancestor of the Dark Lord. The Gaunt family tree places Ominis directly above Marvolo Gaunt, Voldemort's grandfather, leading to the belief that he could be Voldemort's great-grandfather or great-uncle. However, since Hogwarts Legacy takes place in the 19th century, the exact relationship between the two characters cannot be confirmed with certainty.
Despite this, the similarities between Ominis and Voldemort are undeniable. Both are Slytherins who despise "mudbloods," and Ominis can be quite judgmental of the player's character at times, especially during Sebastian Sallow's storyline. It's fascinating to see how a character created specifically for Hogwarts Legacy has become part of the Harry Potter lore, as well as linked to the character of Voldemort himself. Moreover, Hogwarts Legacy features a number of other nods to the Harry Potter books and movies, including an Easter egg that references a well-known location from the series. It's clear that the developers at Avalanche Software have taken great care to create a game that stays true to the established lore of the Wizarding World while also introducing new and intriguing elements to the franchise.
