The new 1.6 update of Honkai Star Rail is once again quite exciting and even HoYoverse has prepared something special for us this time around! I'm sure most of you have heard by now: We will get a free limited 5-Star character, called Dr. Ratio, which is why this guide should be quite interesting for basically every one of us!
There will never ever, in the entire history of Honkai Star Rail, be another character, who is responsible for more memes than Dr. Ratio. His name, his pose … HoYoverse, we can see what you were trying to do there, and to be fair, it worked!
The L + Ratio meme was all over social media the last few days, and it got even more out of hand, after HoYoverse announced that every single player will receive one copy of Dr. Ratio for free with the 1.6 update on December 27, 2023.
I was about to say, that everyone who plans on pulling for Dr. Ratio should take a look at the following guide, however … there is almost no one who won’t have him after the 1.6 update, which mean this will be super interesting for everyone!
Honkai Star Rail Dr. Ratio Build: Best Light Cones & Team Comp
Veritas Ratio, or better known as Dr. Ratio, is probably one of the smartest, yet most self-centered and unsympathetic characters you will ever meet in the Honkai Star Rail universe. He knows it all, and probably even more important to him, he knows everything much better than you do.

Dr. Ratio always showed unparalleled intelligence and talent since his very youth, but now he prefers to refer to himself as a “Mundanite.” He firmly believes that intellect and creativity are not confined to geniuses, and seeks to distribute knowledge to the entire universe to cure the persistent disease named ignorance.
Let's find out how to build this new 5-Star, we're all about to have when 1.6 finally drops!
Dr. Ratio Build
In order to make your Dr. Ratio build as good as possible, you should aim to give him a completed 4-piece set together with a 2-piece set! If there is no other option, you can also go with three 2-piece sets instead!
Since Dr. Ratio is a Hunt character, his position within a team is pretty clear: He wants to be the main DPS! (Who couldn’t have thought …) There are two sets who suit Dr. Ratio quite good:
Relic Set Combination #1
Use this set, if you want to increase his follow-up DMG:
- 4-piece set: The Ashblazing Grad Duke
- 2-piece set: Inert Salsotto
Relic Set Combination #2
Use this second set, if you want to focus on his Imaginary DMG output:
- 4-piece set: Wastlander of Banditry Desert
- 2-piece set: Inert Salsotto
Next to the right set, you should also pay attention to the right stats!
Dr. Ratio's Best Stats
The right (sub)stats are just as important as the correct set! You should aim for the following stats:
- Body: Crit RATE / Crit DMG
- Boots: SPD / ATK%
- Planar Sphere: Imaginary DMG / ATK %
- Link Rope: ATK % / ERR
- Overall Prio: SPD → Crit RATE / Crit DMG → Effect Hit Rate →ATK%
Let's hope we get some lucky rolls as well!
Dr. Ratio Light Cones
Just as every other limited 5-Star character, Dr. Ratio will have his very own signature Light Cone as well! (No, we don’t get this one for free … unfortunately.) Let’s take a look at how good it is and which other options there are for a more free-to-play friendly approach!
1. Baptism of Pure Thought
It should be to no one's surprise that Dr. Ratio's signature weapon is by far his best choice! The effect of his weapon shows pretty obvious, in which direction Dr. Ratio's play style is meant to go and that his follow-up attacks are especially important for his rotation!
Baptism of Pure Thought has the following effect:
- Increases the wearer’s CRIT DMG by 20%. For every debuff on the enemy target, the wearer’s CRIT DMG dealt against them increases by6%, up to a maximum of 3 stacks. When the wearer attacks the target with their Ultimate, the wearer receives the Disputation effect, increasing DMG dealt by 36% and their follow-up attacks ignore 20% of the target’s DEF. This effect lasts for 2 turns. (S1)
2. Cruising in the Stellar Sea
Cruising in the Stellar Sea is a freely available weapon, which can be purchased at Herta's Light Cone shop in the Simulated Universe. Since it is super easy to acquire, you should definitely pick up at least one copy of it instead of getting Dr. Ratio's signature weapon.
Cruising in the Stellar Sea has the following effect:
- Increases the wearer's CRIT rate by 8%, and increases their CRIT rate against enemies with HP less than or equal to 50% by an extra 8%. When the wearer defeats an enemy, their ATK is increased by 20% for 2 turn(s). (S1)
3. Swordplay
Swordplay is one of my favorite 4-Star Light Cones, since it is super straightforward and you can get at least some copies of it through the gacha system quite easily. Because of its effect, Swordplay could actually be a little better than Cruising in the Stellar Sea!
Swordplay has the following effect:
- For each time the wearer hits the same target, DMG dealt increases by 8%, stacking up to 5 time(s). This effect will be dispelled when the wearer changes targets. (S1)
Personally, I will probably go with Swordplay on my Dr. Ratio!
Dr. Ratio Team Comp
By now, you should know how much I love mono element teams! I really don’t know why, but there is something really fun and satisfying about them! Let's take a look at one option for Dr. Ratio!
If you want to make it a little less expensive, you can swap out Welt with Yukong instead! The only pretty essential unit next to Dr. Ratio is Silver Wolf, who is carrying most mono element teams!
And that's about all there is to know about Dr. Ratio! I am super excited that HoYoverse is giving us a free 5-Star character and to be honest, I think we really deserve it! (And that also means more Jades for Ruan Mei!)
