Even if Honkai Star Rail is another one of HoYoverse's free-to-play games, you can easily spend hundreds of dollars in order to obtain all limited characters. But which one was the most profitable?
One does not talk about money, however, it really is a fascinating topic, especially if it's about HoYoverse's money! Unfortunately, they are not too open about their exact revenue when it comes to gacha games like Genshin Impact or Honkai Star Rail.
However, some numbers got public, and they definitely indicate that each and every one of us is spending too much money on these games! (I am guilty as well, don't worry…). But which characters' banners were the most profitable when looking at Star Rail?
Did you spend money on gacha games?
Honkai Star Rail Revenue: Which Character Brings In The Most Money?
I know, gacha money is a different topic to talk about, but how could we celebrate the start of a new year better than by looking at how much of our money we gave HoYoverse over the course of 2023!?
Luckily, the folks over from Honkailab did put together a pretty good chart, which shows the estimated revenue generated by HoYoverse through Honkai Star Rail. These numbers are purely focused on the Chinese market and are limited to IOS devices.
The shown data is as of January 3, 2024. If you want to check out the revenue over the course of the last few months, since Honkai Star Rail got released, you can find all the information right here.
A pretty clear-cut thing!
It seems like we truly found the next HoYoverse queen!
Seele Stays The Queen of Honkai Star Rail
To be quite honest, that Seele would be still up there is no real surprise. She was the first ever limited 5-Star in Honkai Star Rail, and almost every player was trying to get her at the game's release! Back then, Seele was honesty just super broken and to this day, she is a solid carry for your team!
Based on the data available to us, Seele earned HoYoverse at least around $40,000,000! Next to that, she already had her first rerun as well, however it’s quite hard to tell how much of the $18,771,718 were actually spend on Seele, since Topaz was the new character at the time!
Most of Seele's strength comes from her reset mechanic, which allows her to have much more turns than every other character or your opponents could ever dream of having! All in all, Seele is a pretty amazing character, not just gameplay-wise. Her purple butterfly-design isn't maybe the uniquest thing ever, but it does look really beautiful, especially when she uses her skills and ultimate.
Is Seele Still Relevant?
After we found out why Seele's release was such a huge success, let's look at the whole thing from a different angle!
Since we discovered that Seele is still by far the unit who made the biggest revenue for HoYoverse as of right now, it is safe to say that she is also the overall most owned limited 5-Star character! However, in comparison to how many accounts do have a Seele, her usage in the Memory of Chaos for example is surprisingly low! In version 1.6, she is merely rank eleven, with 35.35% of runs containing a Seele.
“I like to keep my scythe sharp, so I can get a good night's sleep on it.” — Seele
When comparing her to a Jingliu for example, who “only” made $19,793,616 and ranks at place three, we have to ask ourselves if the Seele era is soon to be over and if she may be a forgotten unit in the near future of Honkai Star Rail? Don’t get me wrong, she is still pretty strong and can carry you through the game with ease, however, many players seem to have seen enough of Seele for now.
Do you still use Seele? As for me, I know it sounds hard to believe, but unfortunately I don’t have Seele on my account, but I love to snatch her from a friend whenever I'm in need of a good Quantum unit!
