Honor of Kings is getting an open-world AAA spin-off that goes by the name of 'World'. So far we only really know what we can see in the trailer, which you can watch below.
So I don't know if you know, but Honor of Kings is the biggest game in the world – or most popular if we're talking nomenclature. You might have never heard of it, because no one plays is outside of the Eastern market, but this game's player numbers make League of Legends look cute: 100 million concurrent players for Honor of Kings vs 8 million for LoL. The game is owned by Tencent, who also own Riot Games, and now they licensed developer TiMi Studio to release a AAA open-world spin off.
Honor of Kings Gets AAA Open-World Spin-Off: World
I don't need to tell you how pretty and polished this spin-off looks, you can see that for yourself in the trailer anyway. With the player numbers I gave you above, though, it should not come as a surprise that the budget for this game is endless. Plus, Honor of Kings is currently competing with Genshin Impact for which game is making the most all-time revenue, so they probably realized, 'hey, maybe we should just make an open-world game that is even better than Genshin Impact:'
Just like Genshin Impact, the Honor of Kings spin-off will get a global release, which will mark the first time this franchise sets foot in the Western market (well, technically Arena of Valor is the West's version of the game, but that would get complicated...).
Maybe I should've led with this, but the spin-off will simply go by the name World and it will be released on multiple platforms. There is no word on a release date, nor on whether the game will come to mobile devices or not. If TiMi is trying to emulate, rival, and eventually surpass, the success of Genshin Impact, then it's likely they will release it on mobile too. If the graphics from the trailer are the benchmark, though, then I doubt mobile devices will be able to handle the game. Either way, we can look forward to a new major player in the open-world gaming offering.
