How To Get Infinite Lives In Mario Wonder

One might think that as games evolve, some mechanics are left in the past. However, Super Mario Bros. Wonder stays true to the essence of the classic 2D Mario games, including the iconic 1-Up trick. For those not familiar, this trick involves repeatedly jumping on a Koopa Troopa's shell, which, after a series of consecutive leaps, rewards the player with a 1-Up. And the beauty of this trick is that it can be repeated indefinitely, providing a lifeline that seems infinite.

Twitter user DriftCons shared their discovery of a perfect spot for the 1-Up trick in World 1's third level, "Scram, Skedaddlers." Halfway through the level, players encounter an array of red and green pipes protruding from the ground. These pipes can be moved by Mario and friends, adding an exciting new dimension to gameplay.

By cleverly arranging the pipes, as demonstrated in DriftCons' video, players can create a narrow gap between two pipes. They can then toss a Koopa Troopa shell (readily available in the level) into this gap and jump on it repeatedly. The game rewards their skillful maneuver with a cascade of 1-Ups.

But that's not the only method. Twitter user Matcha_Foxx found another way to earn 1-Ups in the same section of "Scram, Skedaddlers." By executing precise jumps and utilizing the Glide Cap badge to hop between the seeds spewed by the Skedaddlers, players can also amass an impressive collection of 1-Ups. "Scram, Skedaddlers" indeed seems to be the key to a near-infinite supply of 1-Ups in Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

Another trick was found by Twitter user LilKirbs14 on the map "Cosmic Hoppos" in World 1, which requires a bit more skill, since more timing is involved, but if you want to go for extra style-points, this is the way:

The Infinite 1-Up Trick: A Step-By-Step Guide

If you're itching to get your hands on this seemingly endless supply of 1-Ups, here's how to do the DriftCons-method:

Step 1: Eliminate the Skedaddlers

First, eliminate the Skedaddlers by jumping on them. You'll want to set up your 1-Up trick without any pesky enemies nearby.

Step 2: Drop the Shell Between the Red and Green Pipes

Grab a shell from the red Koopa located to the left of the pipes. Drop the shell neatly between the green and red pipes.

Step 3: Adjust the Pipe Gap

Now, adjust the green pipe's position by pushing it to the right. Make sure there's enough room for your character and the shell to fit.

Step 4: Repeatedly Jump on the Shell While Sliding On the Pipe

With the pipes set up, drop down from them, step on the shell, and jump off while simultaneously pushing the L Analog Stick to the right to slide off the pipes. Repeat this process to collect 1-Ups until your life counter is maxed out.

Remember to perform a light jump when you leap from the shell to avoid soaring too high and landing on top of the pipes. This skillful maneuver ensures you continue to rack up 1-Ups efficiently.

What Does the Infinite 1-Up Trick Achieve?

By continuously stomping on enemies without touching the ground, you can elevate your score from "Good" to "Wonderful" in just eight jumps. At this point, your score will convert into 1-Ups. This trick allows you to amass a maximum of 99 lives in the game, ensuring you won't face a Game Over screen for quite some time.

One caveat to having 99 lives is that you won't experience the bonus stage "Coins Galore!" after encountering a Game Over. However, with an almost limitless number of lives at your disposal, this minor drawback seems like a fair trade.

So, if you're looking to enjoy your Mario Wonder adventure without the fear of running out of lives, the Infinite 1-Up Trick is your ticket to platforming bliss. Happy gaming!
