How To Play Gengar in Pokémon Unite
Gengar Guide: Basics
Gengar is a speedster, his best stat therefor being mobility. He's a great ganker, so make sure to play him in the right role.
- Offense: 3.5/5
- Endurance 2/5
- Mobility 4/5
- Scoring 3/5
- Support 0.5/5
Gengar Guide: Evolution
Gengar starts out as Ghastly, that evolves into Haunter at Level 5. At Level 9, Haunter evolves into Gengar.
Gengar Guide: Unique Abilities
- Leviate – Gengar gains increased Movement Speed out-of-combat.
- Basic Attack – Every third attack lunges at an opposing Pokémon.
Gengar Guide: Moves
Level 1
- Will-O-Wisp | 5s cooldown – Gengar shoots sinister flames that burn opponents.
- Lick | 7s cooldown – Licks an opponent and pulls it towards you.
How to build: If you want to play Gengar as the jungler that we'd advise you to, then definitely go for Will-O-Wisp. If you'd rather play in lane, Lick is the better option, as it'll pull an enemy close, letting allies attack it heavily.
Level 5
- Shadow Ball | 4.5s cooldown – Hurls a shadowy blob that slows and weakens opponents' special defense.
- Sludge Bomb | 8s cooldown – Hurls sludge that poisons opponents.
How to build: Sludge Bomb is better, as the poison might just decide life or death for the opponent at this stage of the game.
Level 7
- Dream Eater | 7s cooldown – Puts an opposing Pokémon to sleep. If used again on a sleeping opposing Pokémon, you heal yourself, and reduce the cooldown of Shadow Ball or Sludge Bomb.
- Hex | 7.5s cooldown – Blinks to an area, damaging nearby opponents. Poisoned opponents take increased damage. This move's cooldown gets reduced for each poisoned target hit.
How to build: Hex is extremely powerful when you've built Sludge Bomb before this and as we advise you to take Sludge Bomb, we now advise you to take Hex.
Level 9 – Gengar Unite Move
- Phantom Ambush – Blinks to an area and becomes invisible, gaining increased Movement Speed. On second activation: Scares all nearby opponents, damaging and slowing them.
If neither team can decide whether to go in or retreat, use Phantom Ambush to make that decision for them. A great engaging tool that often turns the game in your favor.
Gengar Guide: Item Build
- Held Items | Go with Wise Glasses, Sp. Atk. Specs and Energy Amplifier.
- Battle Item | X Attack.
Wise Glasses increases the damage of your special attacks, just like Sp. Atk. Specs (after you've scored a goal) and Energy Amplifier deals extra damage for a short time after you've used your Unite Move.
X Attack will increase your Sp. Attack even further, so take that with you to become a beast.
Gengar Guide: Game Strategy
Be. A. Jungler. Play sneakily and gank when you see fit, it's the best strategy for Gengar. The combo for Gengar is always Sludge Bomb - Hex. With this combo, you'll become unstoppable.
