How To Play Lucario in Pokémon Unite
Lucario Guide: Basics
Unsurprisingly, Lucario is fast and likes to get into melee range: He deals a lot of damage, while still being balanced enough to count as an all-rounder. His expert level difficulty means that Lucario is not the easiest Pokémon to handle and if you want to play it, you better be ready to get up close and personal.

Lucario Guide: Unique Abilities
- Steadfast – Whenever your HP is low, you get a shield and increased movement speed.
- Basic Attack – Every third attack is boosted, meaning Lucario will perform a combo attack with a bone that deals damage to all opposing Pokémon in the area of effect and also throws them.
Steadfast is incredibly useful for Lucario: You're gonna have to be in the thick of battle, so this ability gives you much needed survivability, while also allowing you to escape faster, thanks to the added movement speed.
Lucario Guide: Moves
Level 1
- Quick Attack | 6s cooldown – Lucario lunges forward at high speed and deals damage to everything in its path.
- Meteor Mash | 7s cooldown – A lunging punch that deals damage and pushes opposing Pokémon away.
How to build: The attacks are similar enough for the added shove to come into effect and making Meteor Mash more useful at level 1. The 1-second extra cooldown on Meteor Mash is negligible and worth the added effect on your opponents.
Level 5
- Extreme Speed | 9s cooldown – You charge forward at high speed and if you hit a Pokémon from point-blank range, the cooldown on the attack is reset and Lucario's HP is restored. You can only reset the attack once per opponent. The upgrade increases Lucario's attack damage after the move was used.
- Power-Up-Punch | 7s cooldown – Lucario charges briefly for a powerful attack. While charging, your movement speed is decreased, while your attack increases and your defense is increased as well, meaning you'll take less damage. Once you attack, you charge and deal more damage the lower your opponent's HP is. Additionally, your next basic attack is boosted, and you reduce the cooldown with every other attack that hits. The upgrade makes Lucario immune to hindrances while charging Power-Up-Punch.
How to build: No question, Power-Up-Punch all the way. It just has too much going for it with its high damage and the boosts it provides you. The synergy with Lucario's Unite move also make this the runaway choice here.
Level 7
- Bone Rush | 10s cooldown – Lucario combo-strikes with a bone, damaging every Pokémon he hits, while also shoving them. After the strikes, Lucario throws the bone and if you use the move again, you will automatically rush to the location of the bone and deal damage to all in the area. The upgrade will allow you to either reset the Power-Up-Punch or Extreme Speed cooldown whenever you re-activate Bone Rush to rush after the bone (see where the name is coming from?).
- Close Combat | 9s cooldown – A combo attack with multiple hits that shove. The upgrade increases the damage.
How to build: Uhm... why would you even consider Close Combat? Bone Rush gives you a lot of offensive creativity to play with, as well as an escape tool with its bone throw. Easy choice.
Level 9 – Lucario Unite Move
- Aura Cannon – Deals area of effect damage and increases the damage of the next Power-Up-Punch, after using Lucario's Unite move.
A good ranged attack for Lucario that is versatile and combos well with Power-Up-Punch and Bone Rush. Especially when combined, these three moves can burst down any Pokémon.
Lucario Guide: Item Build
- Held Items | Go with Muscle Band, Attack Weight and Focus Band.
- Battle Item | Eject Button.
Muscle Band will do more damage based on your opponent's HP, while Attack Weight increases your attack after scoring and Focus Band recovers your HP when low. Naturally, then, you'll want to be the one scoring with Lucario, to keep your attack damage to a max.
Eject Button is crucial for Lucario to get out of melee situations that might too much to handle.
Lucario Guide: Game Strategy
Lucario wants to quickly jump into battle to finish off Pokémon. You'll want to play him in the mid lane, so that you can jump into as many battles as possible and get kills. Try to hit opposing Pokémon with a Power-Up-Punch, Bone Rush and Aura Cannon. If used correctly, you can reset cooldowns and wreak havoc on your opponents
