THE FINALS is now in play testing and ranking up the steam charts. But will this new hype shooter be free-to-play once it officially releases?
The open beta for THE FINALS, the new first-person shooter by ex-Battlefield developers at Embark Studios, has recently stormed the Steam charts. It is a team-based shooter that pushes environmental dynamism, destruction, and player freedom to the limits. Ever since the open beta started on October 26, the game has become very popular. Once the game fully launches, will it be free-to-play or will players have to pay for it?
THE FINALS: Is It Free-to-Play?
Yes, THE FINALS is free-to-play on all platforms. Currently, you are able to enter the open beta on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam.
But even though it's a free-to-play shooter, that doesn't mean you can't spend money on it. Similar to other games of that genre like Valorant or Overwatch 2, THE FINALS has a monetization system with microtransactions. This means that there are cosmetic collections, such as weapon or character skins, that can be purchased with in-game currency.
Most of these cosmetic items can be purchased in the shop, where each collection or item costs around 1,000 to 1,600 in-game credits. These credits will be available for purchase after the release of the game. At this point, however, it is not yet known what the value of the in-game currency will be. Looking at similar free-to-play shooters, we assume that 1,000 credits would be equivalent to about $10.
While playing the open beta ourselves, we also got to take a look at the Battle Pass, which includes numerous cosmetics for players to obtain by leveling up and playing the game. Currently, it is not yet known how much the Battle Pass will cost in the final version, as it is still free in the open playtest, which will run until November 5.
