According to a recent report, Netflix might be branching out into more than just streaming movies. The popular platform is currently looking to hire an executive that'll oversee an expansion into video games.

We all know Netflix as the go-to streaming platform for movies and series, or at least we did before everyone and their mother decided to make their own streaming service. Netflix is by no means losing user interest, but the company is already trying to expand into new horizons. A report by The Information revealed that:

Netflix is looking to hire an executive to oversee an expansion into videogames, a sign it is stepping up its efforts to grow beyond traditional filmed entertainment, according to people familiar with the situation.

Game Streaming or Something Else?

This could mean a couple of things. First, let's not forget that Netflix is still the biggest streaming platform with over 200 million subscribers. Streaming games might make total sense, but that might also require some sort of collaboration with another company. On the other hand, Netflix already published a gamebased on Stranger Things. This doesn't necessarily mean we'll see Netflix create its own in-house development studio, but it's certainly a possibility. Amazon spent years working on something similar with Crucible and a few other titles that ultimately failed. It'll be amazing if Netflix gets there first.

According to another part of the report, Netflix was in the talks of offering a bundle of games in a similar manner to Apple's Apple Arcade. If the report is correct Netflix might expand quite a lot, or it might just be a bonus bundle to your subscription.

Gaming has seen quite an increase over the past year, mainly thanks to the global pandemic and everyone staying at home. Will we soon see Netflix compete with Game Pass? Tell us what you think on Facebook or Twitter!
