An insider has revealed that Hangar 13 is already gearing up for the development of Mafia 5.
Remember how, for the longest time, Mafia 4 was a complete uncertainty? We didn't know if we would ever get a continuation to the Mafia story, until it was recently revealed that the Mafia story will actually continue, in the form of a prequel.
Mafia 4 Sequel Is Already Planned
The news was first reported by Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, who reported that Hangar 13's new president will attempt to get the Mafia 4 sequel to be greenlit while Mafia 4 is still in production. Music to my ears, but certainly not standard procedure. Usually, you'd want to see how a game will perform, before starting work on a sequel. But hey, that just means that the wait between Mafia 4 and Mafia 5 won't be all that long.
The reason for this surprising decision is simple: Hangar 13 is currently having to lay off workers, and they want to avoid losing people that work on Mafia 4, but rather want the same core group to develop both Mafia game. Let's just hope that doesn't mean they get fired after they finish Mafia 5...
Of course, calling Mafia 5 a sequel is a bit misleading: Mafia 4 will be a sequel to the series, and we don't know whether Mafia 5 will follow up from where the fourth entry ends, or whether it will occupy a different timeline of the Mafia era altogether. The only thing we do know is that we seem to be guaranteed at least two more Mafia games, which should be music to the ears of all Mafia fans.
