The Matrix Universe will feature a new PS5-Game. According to a leak, the game will be an Unreal Engine 5 Experience and might even be announced this year.
So you remember Matrix – the sci-fi trilogy with Keanu Reeves as main actor that came out ages ago. And you probably noticed that there is a new reboot coming called Matrix Resurrections. Whether that is a good thing or not is absolutely open for debate (no seriously, tell us on Discord) but we won’t get into that here. Because there is big news!
Is Matrix coming to PS5?
According to a leak in one of the most interesting Subreddits, the Matrix universe will not only see another movie this year, there will also be a PS5 game called ‘The Matrix Awakens’. And not only will the game probably have an awesome storyline and hopefully Keanu Reeves in it (Cyberpunk, we had a good time together) it will also run on Unreal Engine 5.
Of course, with Unreal Engine 5's involvement, there must be some Epic Games shenanigans going on here. They just recently confirmed that chapter 3 of Fortnite is going to run on Unreal Engine 5 and there are tons of other games confirmed to use it. Epic Games would need to collaborate with Matrix distributor Warner Bros on this one.
And coming full circle, The Matrix Awakens seems to be going with the classic green aesthetic. The original movie came out in 1999 and did the same, but the new one will look waaay more colorful and not nearly as dark. So mayeb the game is more of a retrospective...? Might as well be an AAA-title to be honest.
When is the Matrix game going to be released?
Unfortunately, we don’t know. Everything that has been leaked so far, you can read here. But coincidentally, there will be one hell of a Game Award Show next week. Well, well, well… wouldn’t that be a good opportunity to present a game like that?
Matrix Resurrection will be out on 22nd December, so that’s another possible date to remember. So stay patient, boys and girls. Keanu Reeves is going to return to our screens sooner or later, and a Nebukadnezar flight simulator may not be that far away.
