Minecraft 1.20 was just announced at Minecraft Live on October 15 and includes a bunch of new Items, that are completely new to the game.
Mojang just announced the new Minecraft Version 1.20 and what we can expect. Here is everything we know so far about the release window, new items, materials and mobs.
Minecraft Java Edition 1.20
While this update may not be as big as expected, it includes some really cool new features for Minecraft, and we have everything that has been announced so far for you right here.
Release Window
Mojang hasn't officially set a release date for the new Update, but confirmed that it will release in 2023. Last year, the new Caves and Cliffs update was released just a few months after the Minecraft Live announcement. Since the current update is nowhere near as big as last year's Caves And Cliffs update, we think it will be released sometime in the spring of next year.
New Mobs
Camel
The camel becomes the newest mount in Minecraft. It is slower than a horse, but can actually carry two players at once. This feature can come in very handy if you and a friend are on your way somewhere, especially at night. While one of you rides the camel, the other can fight approaching monsters in the meantime. Camels are quite tall animals by nature, and in Minecraft it is impossible for zombies to reach you when you are riding the camel, which is quite cool, but you still have to look out for skeletons though, cause even a giant camel won't save you from their aim.
Sniffer
The sniffer has won the Minecraft Live mob vote and will join Minecraft with the new Update in 2023. This very strange looking creature can find ancient seeds, which can be used to grow new types of decorative plants.
New Blocks and Items
With this new Update, we are getting a whole set of new blocks, all made of a special and long-awaited material.
Bamboo
Soon, a brand-new wood set for Bamboo will join Minecraft. We all know how easy and fast it is to grow bamboo in Minecraft, so we can probably look forward to a very cheap new building material. Bamboo blocks will be available in the same variants as wood. Which includes doors, stairs, steps, slabs, fences, fence gates, pressure plates, signs, buttons and trap doors. The blocks look pretty good, and I can already imagine building nice little lake cabins with them. Especially the trap doors are gorgeous and can also be used as windows.
Bamboo Raft
Just like with any other type of wood, soon you can also make a boat out of bamboo. But wait! A boat made of bamboo is not just any normal boat in Minecraft, no. We can make rafts! How cool is that? Bamboo rafts have exactly the same function as normal boats in Minecraft, but they just look so much more interesting!
Chiseled Bookshelf
This one is definitely my favorite. As a Minecraft player who loves the aesthetic of cosy, old-fashioned libraries and enchantment rooms, I'm very happy to announce that we'll soon be getting bookshelves that can actually be filled with books. Whether a book is enchanted or not doesn't matter, you can place it in a chiseled bookshelf. And they don't just work like a chest where you have a storage space, no. When you put a book in this shelf, it is actually displayed in one of the compartments.
The Chiseled Bookshelf can even be used for Redstone crafting. At the moment we don't know to what extent this new block can be integrated into Redstone tech, but in the Minecraft Live, Mojang showed us that players can build a secret bookshelf doorway by using a comparator. This new type of bookshelf is not only super functional, but also looks really nice, and I love it!
Sniffer Eggs
The sniffer eggs, can be found inside ocean ruin chests and will work just like a turtle egg, and hatch into a baby Sniffer, this is going to be adorable!
Hanging Sign
Signs have always contributed a lot to the storytelling in Minecraft, although they are available in different colors, they have only ever had one shape so far. This is about to change, as signs will soon be able to be made in a different variation, which will look different depending on where you place them. The hanging sign can be placed under blocks and fences as well as on the side of blocks and will look different in each.
Mojang has not yet announced all the new features of the update, but will reveal more and more throughout the year, so stay tuned for more!
