Ah Nintendo 64, how many fond memories do we share with you? We explored the Deku Tree in Ocarina of Time, cursed our friends in Mario Kart 64, and unpacked the Golden Gun in that legendary Rare shooter. Now, a resourceful modder has created the smallest, portable N64 version ever.

Back in the late 1990s, we all had an N64 sitting at home, right? We loved that console. Super Mario 64 was a revelation, Ocarina of Time one of the best games of all time. Everything was so much simpler back then. Thanks to the modder "GmanModz" Nintendo's cult console lives on as a handheld because he has created the smallest portable version in the world.

Nintendo 64 Becomes a Handheld

Honestly? An N64 to take with you would be something nice. Who needs mobile games when you can comfortably play a round of Mario Kart on the subway? That's probably what the modder "GmanModz" thought, as he was creating a portable version of the Nintendo 64 over the holidays.

Visually, the handheld is based on a classic Game Boy, while many parts of the original N64 controller are used. The analog sticks come from the Joy-Cons of the Nintendo Switch.

However, we do have some bad news for you: This N64 handheld is unfortunately not available for purchase. If you have a knack for technology and want to cobble together a portable Nintendo 64 yourself, you can follow the modder's video tutorial.

Last year, "GmanModz" even created a portable N64 with the look of the Game Boy Advance SP, but the new variant turns out to be even smaller, beating even the record of the smallest N64 mod set in 2015.

Hey Nintendo, if you're reading this, please finally launch an N64 Classic Mini, okay? That would be great. Thanks.
